J.プランキー・ブランチ(sax 他)が率いるグループのベスト盤。グループ名やメンバーの変遷も激しいグループだったようだが、ストラタ・イースト・レーベル、自主レーベルのブラック・ファイアへの録音、あるいは7インチで出された曲、未発表録音などかなり行き届いた選曲がなされている。70年代の(ラテン、カリブも含めた)同時代的黒人音楽をマイナー・レーベルならではの大胆さで総括しているようなごっつい手応えがある。月並みな言い方だが、熱気とクールさのバランスが異常に心地いい。 (後藤幸浩) --- 2001年11月号
