硬派のロックシンガーの初のベストアルバム。収録された１５曲は自選したもので、ニューテイクもある。「嘘っぱちの履歴書」でやっと雇われた男は社長をなぐって会社をクビになり、少年は孤独の果てにビルから空へはばたこうとする。少年Ａは法廷で「裁判長よりオレの方が正しい」と叫び、仲間の死をきっかけに集まった男女は、テーブルの周りでそれぞれの過去と今を語り合う。都会の片隅に生きる人々のドラマをナイフで切り取ったように鋭く描き、まるで短編小説を読むような味わいがある。「浜田省吾や佐野元春じゃ子供っぽい」と思われる方は、是非！

　１５年来の甲斐バンドファンだが、ある甲斐関連のサイトでお勧めになっていたので聞いてみた。
　ベスト版というのもはじめて聞く者にとっては馴染みやすかった。
　久し振りに1曲、1曲に魂を感じ、今回はじめて彼のCDを購入することにした。

昔カセットで持っていた「The Fool On The Build」が無性に聞き返したくなり、このベスト盤の存在を知ったため購入しました。歌の内容はとても重く、昨今の軽やかなのりになれている人にはつらいかもしれませんが、骨太の男のロックと痛いくらいに真剣に人の生と向き合った歌詞はとても癖になります。
理想の愛や純粋な愛などではなく、どこにも属せない男や女が孤独に世界に立ち向かっているひたむきな姿をまるで短編小説のように綴っています。「生きる理由も見当たらない　死ぬための理由もない」というコピーがこのアルバムの世界をとてもよく象徴していると思います。
