元々ミュージシャンとしてアーティストのキャリアをスタートさせ、また本人も音楽での表現を主とする旨発言しておられましたし、実際あの出世作「バッファロー」のサントラでもその才能の片鱗は窺えた訳ですが、この初のソロアルバムでいよいよその本領を発揮した感があります。全ての作詞・作曲・演奏・プロデユースを手がけたあまりにプライベートな手触りを感じさせるものですが、それ故に純度の高い雑味の無い美しい音と旋律に溢れています。これを俳優業の片手間と呼べる訳が無い。
ぜひ偏見無しでお聴き頂きたい傑作です。

この人、本当に「音フェチ」なんだろうな。
このアルバムを聞いていると、一人スタジオにこもり、
ろくに食べもせず、寝る間も惜しんで、ただ黙々と制作に没頭していた
であろうことが、容易に想像できます。
ヴィンテージ物の機材を使って作られているせいか、
音自体はどこかぬくもりを感じさせるし、全体的にゆったりとした

空気感があるのですが、同時に必要最低限の楽器編成で、
余分な物はすべて削ぎ落とし、研ぎ澄まされた感覚もあります。
そしてそこにふんわりと乗っかる、憂いを湛えた彼の繊細なヴォーカル。
美しいアルバムだと思う。

こんな地味なアルバムそう簡単に作れるものではありません。
しかも、それをヴィンセント・ギャロがソロ第一作（2001年作）としてリリースしたのだから、やはり驚きました。

これは一言で言うと、非常にダウナーなレコードです。まるでピンク・フロイドが、シド･パレットを巡って深く内面に潜り込んでいったときのような辛辣さと沈鬱さを伴っています。
ギャロの作品ということで、多くの人が手に取っただろう本作でありながら、ギャロ自身は全くプロモ的な面には無頓着で、ただただ自分自身の描きたい世界を黙々と表現しています。ここにはコマーシャルな音は一切なく、ジャケットが示すように、ずっと長く灰色の道が続いていくようなイメージです。しかし、音にはジャケットをよく見ると、かすかに虹が掛かっているのに気付きます。これは漂流者が見たわずかの希望なのかどうかは分かりませんが、このアルバムの音の先にあるものを示しているように思います。作品中では、光は見えることなく、静かに終わっていきます。
