このDecemberというCDは、冬の風の冷たさや森の木々から下がる氷柱の音までもを伝える名CDだと思う。音が目に見えるとしたら、冬が聴こえるとしたら、これほど表現しきっているCDはないと思う。12月という冬の極限の寒さ、冷たさ、厳しさを偽りなく表現できていると思う。

私がKanonを最初に聴いたのもこのCDが最初だった。今では有名になってしまって誰でも知っているけれど、他の人が言うようにこのCDが出たころは知名度は低かったと思う。私はこのCDからKanonに惚れてピアノも弾けないのに楽譜を購入したくらいだ。以来Kanonには敏感になっているけれど、やはりジョージウインストンのKanonに勝るものはないと思う。

December(12月)ということで他の曲の中にはクリスマス絡みのもあり、タイトルもCDにぴったり。街は12月!はお商売の月になってしまうけど、家でココアを飲みながら聴くにオススメできるCDです。

彼の作品ではひとつ前の「Autumn」の方が世間的には有名ですが、
私としてはこちらの方を推薦します。
彼のピアノは「秋」より「冬」があっている。
目を閉じてじっと聞き入ればまさにＣＤジャケットの風景が思い浮かぶの
だが、決して寒くはならない。
暖炉が燃えている部屋から風景を見ているという感じでしょうか。
これからの季節にピッタリです。

ボーナスは他人の曲のカバーですが特に雰囲気を壊すことなく収まっています。
余計なことかも知れませんが、このＣＤはデジパック仕様です。

DecemberのアナログLPレコードが、日本で最初に紹介されてからもう20年を超えた。当時はジャンルが定まらず、ジャズやクラッシックの並びに置いてあったりしたが、今ではもうすっかり定着したようだ。このアルバムには、冬の、美しく冷たいイメージ以外に、クリスマスの暖かさ、楽しさと、キリスト教の神への念いというものが込められているかのようだ。ピアノ・ファンはもちろん、今までピアノの音楽にあまり触れたことのない人でも、ぜひトライしていただきたい。その透明感にきっと心が和むだろう。G.Winston のピアノスタイルは、ジャズでなくクラッシックでもない。もちろんホテル・ラウンジのピアノなどとは程遠い。「録音用のマイクは博物館に今にも入りそうなとても古い型で、透明感とアコースティック感を出そうとした」演奏家だと、当時のレビューに書いていた。クリスマス期に限らず、冬を一人で静かに過ごされる予定の方には、このアルバムはおすすめです。朝BGMとして聴くのもとても気持ちがいい。寒い季節のちょっとしたプレゼントにも喜ばれるのではないかと思う。特にプレゼントを渡す理由がなくてもいいではないですか。
　これはその特別版で、通常版に二曲エクストラ・トラックが入っている。
