   ソウル、ブルースからの影響を前面に押し出したロック、といえば、ブリティッシュ・ロックの基本的な特徴のひとつだが、このスタイルをおそらく最初に完成させたのがFreeだと思う。そして、70年に発表された本作こそ、彼らの音楽性がもっともわかりやすく表現された作品といえるだろう。
   タイトに飛び跳ねるビートを叩き出すサイモン・カーク、オーセンティクなブルース・センスをまといながら独創性あふれるベース・ラインを奏でるアンディー・フレーザーから構成されるリズム・セクションがまず、強烈な印象を残す。ブルースの白人的解釈という小手先の方法論に頼らず、黒人音楽のリズム感をほぼ完璧に取り入れることに成功した本作は、80年代以降のUKバンド（THE JAM、OCEAN CLOUR SCEANなど）にも大きな影響を与えている。
   また、ポール・ロジャースのソウルフルなボーカル、ポール・コゾフのグルーヴしまくるギター・リフも本作の大きな魅力となっている。要するに才能あふれる4人のプレイヤーの技術とセンスがガッチリと一体化しているわけだが、当時、彼らが20才そこそこだったという事実には本当に驚かされる。（森 朋之）

　ポールロジャースがクイーンの再結成に参加すると聞いて、２８年ぶりに買ってしまいました。
昔の５倍の値段のオーディオで改めて聴くと、レットイットビーのネイキドのようなスタジオの臨場感を感じられて、彼らの真剣さも伝わってきました。
　センスの良い若いミュージシャンが一生懸命プレーしている硬派のブルースロックが満載です。カッコいいロックは斯くあるべし。
年老いたロック小僧から、現在バンドをやっている若い皆さんに、心から推薦したい一枚です。
でも・・・やっぱりポールロジャースのボヘミアンラプソディ-は聴きたくないですね。

1970年発売のフリーの3枚目のアルバムです。ソウルフルで骨太な
ポール・ロジャースの歌声と、アンディとサイモンのうねるグルーヴ隊
そして直情的で陶酔させてくれるコゾフのギタープレイとがあいまって
最高の高揚感をくれる1枚です。「Fire And Water」、「Mr.Big」、
そして最高にグルーヴィーな「All Right Now」と名曲ぞろいです。
今の音楽にはない、独特なうねる空間を是非体験してみてください。
きっと虜になって手放せない1枚になると思います。

私はまだ20代なんですが、こういう渋みのきいたブルースロックは最近のバンドにはない深みがあって好きですね。デレク＆ザ・ドミノス（エリック・クラプトンのバンド）の『LAYLA』とこのアルバムはブルースを理解するうえで最初に聴くには最適なのではないでしょうか。
アルバム全体としてはわりとテンポのゆったりした曲が多くて、ツェッペリンみたいな豪快なギターリフやガツンガツンくる強烈なバンドアンサンブルではなく、むしろ音数が少なくて、その“間”みたいなものがグッとくるブルージーな雰囲気を醸し出してて、そこがいいんだと思います。むせび泣くようなギターとブルース的なコブシのきいた情感たっぷりのヴォーカルがもうなんとも言えず最高です。
個人的には夕暮れ時に聴くと堪らない気持ちになります。郷愁の念にかられるとでも言うんでしょうか、浸っちゃいますね。
昔好きだったロックミュージックって、後で聴き返すとあまり耳に馴染まなかったりするもんですが、このアルバムは一生聴ける作品になるんじゃないかと思います。
