ＱＵＥＥＮのアルバムといえば、“あのボヘミアン・ラプソディが収録されているアルバム”として名高い『オペラ座の夜』がよく歴史的名盤として挙げられるが、ＱＵＥＥＮファンの中には、この『クイーンII』をベストアルバムに挙げる人が多い。
このアルバムは＃６以降はフレディ・マーキュリーの作品で占められていて、ノン・ストップで流れ続けるのであるが、『オウガ・バトル』や『マーチ・オブ・ブラック・クイーン』などは、すごいの一言。
フレディの才能がフルに生かされているという点で、このアルバムは『オペラ座の夜』以上である。

このアルバムを聴かずして、Queenを知っているとはいえません。
初期の未完成な作品と評価されがちのようですが、とんでもない。
どの作品も素晴らしく、4人の熱意のこもった重厚な仕上がりです。

フレディのヴォーカルは美しくてため息が出るかと思えば、次には野生的になり、また次には奇天烈になるという具合で、他のアルバムではこれほどヴォーカルの七変化を見ることはできないでしょう。

また初期ならではの、ヴォーカルトラックを押さえ気味にしたミックスも、かえってリスナーを飽きさせず効果的。中期後期のQueenサウンドを彷彿とさせるアイデンティティが既に見事に出来上がっています。これほどの才能のグループだったのかと改めて崇拝してしまう逸品です。

アナログＬＰ盤しかなかった発売当時は、A/B面をWhite/Black sideとまで銘打ってあったくらい、確固たるコンセプトの中作成された作品です。
Ａ面をブライアンメイ、Ｂ面をフレディマーキュリィーがほぼ担当し、当時の録音技術の最も高度な次元で録音された音絵巻。

　特に圧巻なのは「人食い鬼の戦いOgreBattle」から始まるフレディの独壇場です。ノンストップで進んでいくQueenWorldにあなたは息つく暇もないほど魅せられることでしょう！
