全5曲のうち、民謡を素材にした楽曲が3曲収録されている。土くささを備えた民謡と洗練された甘い響きを発するサクソフォーンはミスマッチであると思われるかもしれないが、当盤では冴えたリズム感と精緻なアーティキュレーションによって、音楽から高揚感とかぐわしい薫りが立ちのぼってくるのが心地よい。特に、バルトークのピアノ曲を名倉明子が編曲した「民謡による3つのロンド」が聴き応え満点だ。結成以来11年の貫禄とメンバー交替による新しい風が、絶妙にブレンドされているアルバムである。 (満津岡信育) --- 2001年10月号

サックスはやはり木管楽器なのだなぁと感じさせてくれる１枚。
家でこのCDを掛けると、家族に最初に言われるのは「クラリネットのCDなんて持ってたっけ？」の一言。クラリネットに似ているけど違う、幅広くて艶のある音色を聴かせてくれます。
演奏者は音大の同期だという４人のサクソニスト達。世界的にはまだまだ若手なのでしょうが、その音色はどこまでも優しく響いてきます。某デパートのミニイベントで彼らの演奏を聴いたのですが、とても楽しそうに演奏していたのが印象深いです。このCDでも、ウキウキしつつも浮つかない、穏やかで楽しい空気をこちらに伝えてくれます。
曲はどれもあまり重々しくなく、サクソフォーンという楽器とカルテットという合奏形態の良いところを集めたような選曲です。ポップスな気分じゃない、けどクラシックは重すぎる―そういう気分の時にオススメしたい１枚です。
