ブリティッシュロック好きは聞き逃すと後悔しますよ
共作者にはRon Sexsmithの名前もあります
SQUEEZE本体の活動も気になりますが、まずはこのアルバムで楽しんでください

英国ポップを代表するバンド・スクイーズのフロントマンの2001年ソロ作。
スクイーズというと、英国らしい捻りのあるメロディがパワーポップ然としたサウンドが印象的だが、このソロ作は、どちらかというともっとギターポップ寄りで、メロディも素直な美しさがある。
それにしても、このジャケットはとても好きだ。空を飛びたいという思いが、非常に率直に示されていると思うが、音のほうもそういう開放感があるし、やりたいことを自由にやった感じがよく出ている。その結果、より彼のメロディメイカーとしての資質がよく出たアルバムということもできるだろう。聴いていて、インパクトはそれほどないのだが、すっきりと晴れ晴れとした気分にはなってくる。
なお、初回は二枚組で、もう一枚はアコースティック・バージョンが収められていた。そっちはよりシンガーソングライター然とした側面が出ていて、渋さと爽やかさが同居したなかなかの聴きモノとなっている。

珠玉の美メロのオンパレード。ニール・フィンやパディー・マクアルーンとはまた違った、お茶目な、ユーモア溢れるブリット・ポップの傑作です。付録で、『アコースティックバージョン』のCDが付いているかどうか必ず確認した方がいいと思います。聴き逃すと後悔しますよ。
