成毛滋・角田ヒロ(現つのだ☆ひろ)高中正義、当時のロックファンが崇拝するカリスマギタリストでありドラマーでありました。高中は後にギタリストとして一本立ちしますがスターリードギタリストとしての力量がありながら、このバンドではストイックにサウンドの底を支え、スリーピースとは思えぬヘヴィなサウンドの要となっています。71年結成73年にははや解散してしまった短命のバンドですが、私は幸運にもある学園祭のコンサートで彼等を生で観る事ができました。トレードマークのツイードのマキシコートでニコニコしながらレスポールを掻き鳴らす成毛はマーシャル100Wアンプを背にカリスマ的なオーラを放っておりましたし、角田ヒロのパワードラミングは強烈そのものであったことを証言しておきます。幾度もシンバルスタンドがひっくり返ったのを今でも鮮明に覚えています。あのドゥービー・ブラザーズから誘われたのも頷けます。当時ツインドラムだったドゥービーが来日した際、角田が共にセッションした録音を聴いた事が有りますが、実にファンキーで、実現していればと残念で成りません。角田はこの話を辞退したそうですが、それも自身が日本ロック界に必要とされているとの使命感がそうさせたのだと想像します。事実、その後角田は講師として後進の指導にも貢献し現在に至っています。名実共に日本ロック界が誇るナンバーワンドラマーでありましょう。「サムディ」では71年大ヒット曲「メリー・ジェーン」を彷佛とさせる「黒い」ヴォーカルを聴かせてくれます。同じオールドレスポールモデルを愛用し和製ジミー・ペイジなどと称された成毛ですが、本国のバンドを凌ぐテクとパワーと何よりも存在感がこのバンドには備わっておりました。こういうアナログサウンドはいくらテクノロジーが発達しようと、現在では決して再現できないもの。永い間眠っていた日本ロックの財産がこに御開帳であります。
