1977年にウィーンのムジークフェラインザールで行われた、クラウディオ・アバド指揮、ウィーン・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団演奏によるコンサートの模様を収録。若きマウリツィオ・ポリーニのピアノを見られる貴重な記録。曲もオケも最高で現代にふさわしいブラームスになっている。

昨年ポリーニの演奏をサントリー・ホールに聴きに行ったが白髪の好々爺になっていて愕然とした。ただピアノを弾き出せばあの鋭い感性に満ちあふれたポリーニがそこにいた。
このDVDの頃のポリーニは古典に現代作品に精力的に演奏をこなしていた時期で最も脂の乗った時期だった。この運指を見る事が出来る本作は本当に貴重だと思う。
