あのマドンナの記念すべき１ｓｔアルバム。ここには未だにライブでは必ず披露してくれる（５）も収録。今聞いてもやっぱりいい曲だと再確認。アルバム収録曲に関しては、もちろん音的にも歌的にも現在のマドンナと比べるとチープな面は感じるが、ここからすべてが始まったと思うとやはり感動してしまう。デビュー曲（８）や（３）（４）からはディスコクィーンとして君臨していた頃のマドンナに相応しいダンサンブルなサウンドを聞かせてくれるし、（２）などは甘酸っぱい気分にさせてくれる。何度聞いたかわからないが、聞くたびに原点に戻れる、そんな気分にさせてくれるアルバム。

　もう、20年近く前になるマドンナの事実上のデビューアルバム。「ホリディ」や「ボーダーライン」のヒットもあり８００万枚も売れ、彼女は一気にスターダムにのし上がった。なぜ売れたか？私は曲のよさだと思う。ポップで分かりやすく、なおかつ当時のディスコシーンの中でも良い意味で軽い、垢抜けた音楽性であると思う。

　あと、このＣＤを聴いて今思うのだけれども、やはり売れる前の純粋無垢な、彼女の等身大の魅力を感じぜずにはいられない。次の作品が2,000万枚も世界で売れ、スターの地位を不動にした彼女はアメリカ音楽産業界のドル箱となり、超一流のスタッフとともに実に隙のないプロフェッショナルなＣＤを発表していった。と同時に様々な過激なこと（ヌード写真集もその一つ）を行ってもイメージ戦略の一つというのか、綿密な企画会議の中で決定したというのか、すべての活動がレコード会社における商業主義的な範疇の下でのものとしか私は思えないし、年を経るたびにその思いは深くなる。彼女の発表する近作のＣＤは今でも実に素晴らしい。凄いクオリティーを持っていると思う。でも、いうなれば、凄くお金をかけて撮られたハリウッド映画と同様のクオリティーなんだな。

　でも、このＣＤにはそういうスターになる前の素顔の彼女が見える。実に身近に感じる。そして、今よりもずっと魅力的に思える。たとえ今のように飾ることがなくても...。

確かに今までの音も好きだが、これはやっぱりありがたい。音量とクリアーな三度というのは８０年代の音楽には合う。70年代以前の音楽がリマスターされると悲しくなることがあるが、ダンス・ミュージックはノリノリになるほどノスタルジーも増大する。また、帯もシックな色になっているし、以前のキャピキャピなアルバムの雰囲気じゃないのがうれしい。マドンナのファースト・アルバム。マイケル・ジャクソン無敵の時代が到来した頃に出たので、影は薄いが楽しめる。今回リマスターされた分は、明るいアルバムだ。不況にある現在、聞くとほっとする。
