   かつてハイブリッド・セオリーと呼ばれていたバンドがリンキン・パークと名前を変えたのは、ABC 順のレコード棚でリンプ・ビズキットの隣に置かれることを狙ったからではないのか――こんな風に考えるのは皮肉がすぎるかもしれない。しかし、「One Step Closer」や「Papercut」などのロック・ラップとでも呼ぶべきチューンを聴くと、リンキン・パークをフレッド・ダースト一派と並べても確かに違和感がない。プロデューサーのドン・ギルモア（パール・ジャム、リット）、そしてツイン・ヴォーカルを務めるチェスター・ベニントンとマイク・シノダは、デビュー・アルバムとなる本作で、インダストリアルなパワー放つラップ、メロディアスなロックをどちらにかたよることもなく打ち出している。「Points of Authority」はトレント・レズナーにメタリカをぶつけたようなサウンドを狙った曲。一方、「In the End」や「Pushing Me Away」には、ア・パーフェクト・サークルを思わせるロマンティシズムがあり、ブラッド・デルソンのジ・エッジばりのギターがさらにそれを強めている。

   不思議なことに、ベース奏者がいないにもかかわらず、バンドはなんとかアンサンブルを保っている。ベースに代わる武器として、サンプル大好きのDJ、ジョセフ・ハーンが主役となった「Cure For The Itch」では、折衷主義的なセンスをうかがわせている。リンキン・パークがこのセンスをうまく使えば、一時的なブームに終わりそうなロック・ラップというジャンルよりも長寿に恵まれそうだ。（Bill Forman, Amazon.co.uk）

ぞっとした。
鳥肌が立つメロディー。
曲の展開部分が五感を刺激する感じ。久しぶりにこんなバンドに出会った、というのが正直な感想。
目を閉じていると自分の思い描いているようなクールなイメージが浮かぶよう。いままでロックは男の子しか聴かないものだと思っていたけど、女の子でも気に入るはず！！

耳にしている範囲でシャウトされている言葉に下品な言葉が耳に入らない。実際下品な言葉を使っていない。ロックイコールお下品ではなく、ロックイコール自分たちの信念、という印象が気迫と共に伝わってくる。少し哀愁が漂うようなメロディーはまさに繁栄を通り過ぎてしまったような廃墟のような切なさを感じる。全曲お気に入り！！までとはいかなかったけど、期待を裏切らなかった一枚。

５月、ZEPP TOKYOにてみた彼らのライブは、ホントに楽しかったし、ゾクゾクした。このアルバムは、ライブ行く前から凄いカッコよかったんだけど、ライブ行ってからもっとカッコよく聞こえる。何がそんなにカッコイイかって、DJハーンのスクラッチ、マイクシノダのラップ、チェスターのよくのびる歌声、ロブのギターだ。すべてがちゃんとまとまっている。しかも、さらにカッコいいことは、彼らが汚いコトバ、つまりはFUCKとか BITCHとかを使わずに、怒りを表現しているところだ。さらにいうと、すごく性格がいい（たぶん）ところだ。もっともっと言っちゃうと、見た目もカッコいいところだ。見た目から入っても、音から入っても、ハマること間違いなしだと思う。

衝撃を受けました。こんなすごいバンドがいるなんて、このＣＤを聞くまでまったく知らなかった。これまでのミックスチャーというと演奏がロックで歌がラップというお決まりパターンでした。曲の全てがラップだと、聞くに堪えなかったのですが、このバンドは普通のヴォーカルとラップとが上手く噛み合っている。ヴォーカルにラップがハモったり、その逆があったりで、すごく新鮮です。さらに曲がいい!メロディアスでありながら力強い。どの曲も３分程度で、最初から最後まで畳みかけるように進んでいく。近年では最高のＣＤだと思います。
