皆さんテリー・ギリアム監督についてお書きになっているので私は脚本について一言。
これが脚本デビュー作のリチャード・ラ・グラバニーズ氏はある日マンハッタンを歩いていた時に見かけた風景からこの素晴らしいストーリーを思いついたそうです。

ビジネス街をいかにもウォール・ストリートのヤッピー風（もはや死語か？）のビジネスマンが一見してホームレスと分かる男性と歩いていたそうです。
そのホームレスの男性はどう見ても少し心に病を抱えているのが明らかに分かったそうです.

このミスマッチな二人、実に楽しそうに何か話したり笑ったりしながら歩いていたそうでそれがひどく心に残ったそうです。
そこから聖杯伝説と罪と贖罪、そしてラブ･ロマンスを盛込んでこんなに素敵な物語をつく!るなんてさすがですね。

辛いことがあったときに見てしまう。
人間だって捨てたもんじゃないと思わせてくれる映画。
私の見た中では、ロビンウイリアムス最高の演技。
とても良いシーンがたくさんつまった、
大事にしまっておきたい1本です。

ギリアム自身が『大衆にもウケる映画を撮れることを映画会社が認めた』と語っている秀作。言ってみれば大人の童話。ギリアム特有の『毒』は演出面では抑えられているが、そのストーリーは皮肉にあふれている。その皮肉なお話が、エンディングでは観る人を幸せな気分にさせてくれるのだから不思議。偽善と善幸の違いを教えてくれる作品。名曲”How about you?"が印象的に使われており、きっと見終えると口ずさみたくなる。ギリアム映画の入門編としてお勧め。ロビン・ウィリアムスは、まさにはまり役。本当にこの人は、こういうかわいい奇人を演じさせると天下一品。
一見の価値ありです。
