   タクシー運転手のトラビスは、大統領候補の選挙運動員ベッツィに心を惹かれる。だが、デートは失敗。そんな折、トラビスは13歳の売春婦、アイリスと出会い、足を洗うよう説得する。トラビスは使命を感じ、アイリスのいる売春宿に向かったのだが…。
   ニューヨークの夜を走る1人のタクシードライバーを主人公に、現代都市に潜む狂気と混乱を描く。ベトナム帰りの青年トラヴィスをロバート・デ・ニーロが演じ、世界の不浄さへのいらだちを見事に表現した。トラビスの強烈な個性は、70年代を代表する屈折したヒーロー像となった。
   監督は、マーティン・スコセッシ。ホームタウンのニューヨークを舞台に、先鋭な人間ドラマを作りあげた。これが遺作となったバーナード・ハーマンの音楽も印象的で、特にトム・スコットのアルトサックスが冴えわたっている。（アルジオン北村）

荒廃したストリートに生きる一人のタクシードライバー。
帰還兵　不眠症　ぼんやりと映すポルノ映画　湿気ったポップコーン。

不器用な恋愛　トラビスの日記

わたしにとって、すべてが愛おしい作品。
くだらない日常を生き抜くということ、彼が瞳の奥に光を取り戻す姿が

私を奮い立たせてくれる。

クラウンコーラをいつか飲んでみたい。

映画公開当時はラスト部分の凄まじさに圧倒された。
「タクシードライバー」を冷静に観ることができるようになったのは、それから何年も経ってからだ。

トラビスが誰もいない部屋で「俺か？俺に言ってるのか？」と鏡に向かって繰り返し問いかけるシーンは有名。
なんと、デ・ニーロのアドリブであるという。

その姿は頼りなくて痛々しく狂気を放っており、惹きつけられて繰り返し観てしまう。

自分が世間から重要視されないと感じ心を痛める一人の男はある計画を企てる。

終始、トラビスの表情に注目です。
M・スコセッシ監督は一人の男をこれでもかこれでもか・と描くのが異常に巧いですね。

デニーロ演ずるトラピスは何のとりえも無い孤独で平凡なタクシードライバーだ。しかし、失恋を経験したり、いろいろな乗客を乗せるうちに、ここを飛び出して何かをやりたい、という気持ちが渦巻いてくる。

同僚に相談すると、「俺達は、所詮、負け犬だ。一体何が出来る？」と一蹴されてしまう。それを激しく否定するトラピス。孤独な彼は日記をつけながら、この世の中の悪徳や不正に対して、力をもって立ち向かいたいという考えを抱くようになる。目的を見つけた彼は生活の全てをそれに向け、着々と準備を進める。武器を揃え、武具の手入れを行い、体を鍛える。そして衝撃的なクライマックスへとたどり着く。

事が終わってまたタクシードライバーとして平凡な日常をこなす彼。しかしもう以前の彼ではない。余裕をもった彼の行動には、彼なりに何か事を成し遂げたという満足感が感じられる。しかし、最後にみせる野獣のような鋭い彼の視線には、危険なアウトローとしての彼がまだ存在していることを観るものに感じさせる。

満たされない毎日を送りながら何か大きなことをやりたいと考えている孤独なアウトローが陥りやすい典型的なパターンを示してくれた作品。
