　ROXY MUSICというとBryan　Ferryのイメージが強かったのでお洒落なROCKをやっている程度に思っていたのですが（先入観）、とんでもない。私はこのアルバムをEddy JobsonとJohn Wettonが参加しているので聴きましたが、このアルバムは非常に完成度が高く、「ROXY MUSIC」の魅力溢れた素晴らしい作品だと思います。その後のイギリスの様々なバンドに影響を与えていったのがよく分かります。1The Thrill Of It All、2Three And Nine、3All I Want Is You、4Out Of The Blueまでの流れが非常に良く、タイトで格好の良いロックを聴かせてくれます。サウンドは決してプログレではありませんが（ありえない、ハードロックでもない、ロックです。）、Eddy Jobsonのキーボードとヴァイオリン・John Wettonのベースが曲を引き締めているように思います。また、キーボードはBryan Enoではありませんが、ROXY MUSICの魅力が損なわれる事無く、むしろ進化したかのようにも聴こえます。ある意味このアルバムがROXY MUSICのピークだと思いますが、この作品の前後にも良いアルバムが非常に多く、まだROXY MUSICの音楽を聴こうかどうしようか迷われている方にはきっとお気に入りの1枚が見つかると思いますので、是非一度ROXY MUSICの世界に触れてみてはいかがでしょうか?

カントリー・ライフはカバーのデザインでも有名だが、ロキシーがまさに音楽的な急成長を遂げた時期のアルバムである。ぞくぞくするエレキ・オーボエが印象的な＃１「ザ・スリル・オブ・イット・オール」、力強さを加えたフェリーのボーカルが冴える＃４「アウト・オブ・ザ・ブルー」あたりはライブでも取り上げられる自信作だ。そのほかにもまるで宮廷音楽のような＃７「トリプティック」で見せる遊び心。映画の挿入歌を思わせる＃９「ア・リアリー・グッド・タイム」、お得意のウェスタン風＃１０「プレイリー・ローズ」と、さまざまな趣向が楽しい。＃８で愛欲の虜カサノバァを取り上げるところはフェリーらしいといえばらしい。

過激なジャケットにしては、曲は地味すぎる。しかし、ブライアンのボーカルには、引き込まれてしまう。
