   フォークシンガーとしてロサンゼルスを拠点に活動していた彼は、セッションミュージシャンとしての腕前も磨き、1975年にはイーグルスのツアーにも参加している。
   発表した自らのアルバムはそれぞれ高い評価を得るのだが、彼の存在を広く世に知らしめたのは1979年の作品『フェニックス』。そこからシングルカットした「ロンガー」が大ヒットした。この曲の印象があまりにも強すぎるため、単なる一発屋と思われがちだが、本作を聴けばいかに優れたヒットメーカーであり、アーティストであるかがわかる。（春野丸緒）

ダン・フォーゲルバーグもいくつかのベスト盤が出ていますが、
１枚ですべてのヒット曲を網羅しているものがないようです。
そんな中でもこのＣＤは彼の長いキャリアをよくカバーしていて
ファンだけでなく、初めて彼を聞く人にもお奨めできます。

２００７年１２月１６日に死去されました。５６歳でした。日本の新聞で訃報の欄を見て驚きました。残念です。
７０年代から８０年代にかけて多くのヒット曲を残しましたが、自分にとって彼を知るきっかけとなったのはアルバム「THE INNOCENT AGE」です。このアルバムからも何曲かヒットがでましたが「HARD TO SAY」や「LEADER OF THE BAND」「SAME OLD LANG SYNE」などいい曲が多く収録されています。
彼の曲はメロディーラインがシンプルで、非常に覚えやすく、かつ、聞く者の心に残るアメリカンミュージックの代表でした。こうした音楽が流行る時代は、もう来ないのでしょうかね。
ご冥福を祈ります。

’０７年１２月１７日付の日刊紙朝刊に米国の、あるシンガーソング・ライターの訃報が載っていました。ダン・フォーゲルバーグ（Ｄａｎ Ｆｏｇｅｌｂｅｒｇ）。死因は「進行性前立腺がん」とありました。まだ５６歳の若さでした。
　ダン・フォーゲルバーグは７０年代前半にデビュー。いわゆるウエストコースト・ミュージシャンの一人でしたが、アコースティック・ギターを生かした、爽やかな音使いで知られた歌手でした。
　デビュー・アルバムの「Ｈｏｍｅ Ｆｒｅｅ」はあまり注目を浴びませんでしたが、２作目の「Ｓｏｕｖｅｎｉｒｓ」は、楽曲のクオリティの高さもあって、２００万枚の大ヒットとなりました。
　何よりも話題となったのは、レコーディングの際、ギターやピアノ、ドラムス、ベースなどすべての楽器やコーラスを一人でこなす多彩ぶりでした当時の彼のキャッチ・コピーは「ひとりＣＳＮ＆Ｙ」だったと記憶していますが、初めて聴いた時の衝撃は今も忘れられません。
　その後７９年には、全米１位となったシングル「Ｌｏｎｇｅｒ」をおさめたアルバム「Ｐｈｏｅｎｉｘ」を発表。その人気を不動のものとしました。
　７０年代の米ウエストコーストと言えば、イーグルス、ジャクソン・ブラウン、ジェームス・テーラー、キャロル・キングら今も活躍するビッグネームが次々と世に出ました。
　フォーゲルバーグは当然、同世代の彼らと大きな影響を与え合いました。僕もギターバンドをやっていた２０代前半には、彼のアルバムのよく聴いて、音づくりのヒントをもらいました（75年発表の３作目「Captured Angel」も完成度は高かった）。
　２００４年には「Ｆｕｌｌ Ｃｉｒｃｌｅ」を発表。まだまだ現役で頑張っていた息の長い人でしたが、その頃からがんと診断され、闘病生活を送っていたということです。まだ５０代半ば。ほんとに残念です。豊かな才能の死を心から悼みたいと思います。
　ベスト盤だけに？合唱、じゃないでしょ！合掌…。
