   フォーレという人の音楽は、単にフランス的であるばかりではなく、フランス「語」的でもある、といわれる場合がある。それは、フランス語のもつ独特の語感が、フォーレ特有の表現方法と似ているからである。耳当たりが良く、触感が極めてなめらか、その上美しさを兼ね備えている点など、たしかに共通点が多い。
   とりわけ夜想曲（ノクターン）は有名で、音楽史上ショパンのそれと双璧をなすことでも知られているのだが、さてCDとなるとなかなか決定打となる1枚がない。そんな中で、ここに紹介する生粋のパリっ子であったジャン・ユボーによる全集は、バランスのとれた名演奏として万人に推薦できる1タイトルである。
   ダイナミクスのあまり広くないフォーレのピアノ曲は、ショパンの曲の様にとりあえず楽譜どおり弾けばなんとか格好がつくというものではないが、ユボーは独特のデリケートなリリシズムで繊細な弱音から上品なフォルテまでを、色彩感豊かにうたいあげることに成功している。（奈良与志雄）

フォ-レの作品の特徴でもある微妙に変化していく和声が、鋭過ぎることなく純粋な美しさをもって奏でられていて、美しい。全体的に静謐な印象で、柔らかく耳を流れていくのだけれど、確実に楽曲それぞれの個性をとらえている、素晴らしい名演。
