元ルナシーのベーシスト、Jのプロデュースによるyoujeenの1stアルバム。
これは強烈！！脳みそぶん殴られます。
この人の歌唱力は半端じゃない。声の量、迫力、表現力はまさに理想的な女性ロックボーカリスト。
さらにその歌に負けないタイトな演奏がガンガン押してくる。最初から最後まで一方的に押し倒されてノックダウンされるはず。

ちなみにこのyoujeenって言う人は実は韓国人で、今は韓国のCherry Filterっていうバンドのボーカルとして活躍してるそうで、しばらく日本での活動は見られないかもしれないのが残念。

最近邦楽にかっこいいロックバンドなくなってきたなーって思う人、聴いてみるといいですよ。

ソロ2nd、あるいは所属バンドCherry Filterの楽曲を聴く度に、本作での彼女の姿が「作られたもの（＝The Doll）」であることを痛感する。90年代に日本を賑わせた歌謡ロックの類いを、そのまま引き写したような楽曲を無邪気に歌う彼女の姿は、それはそれとして良質なものであるにせよ、この盤を聴いた印象とはあまりにもかけ離れている。

当時本作のプロデューサーJは、FIRE WIREと自ら名付けたプロジェクトの渦中にいた。故hideの残した多国籍バンドZilchを軸に、J自ら発掘した新人から、果てはIan Astbury、Duff McKagan、Stieve Jonesといったリヴィング・レジェンド級の大物まで巻き込んだライブ・イヴェント・シリーズである。後年ダフ・マッケイガンがあるインタビューで、「2001年の日本にはリアルな、世界中で最も解放的なロック・シーンが存在した」と述懐したほどのロックンロール・ドリームの、オープニングを飾ったのがYoujeenであった。

こうした非常に特殊な環境の中、日本デビューを果たすYoujeenにJが課したディレクションは、エゴイスティックなまでにシリアスなロックを追求したものだった。ハードロック〜モダンヘヴィネスを基調とした、時代錯誤ともとれるほどシンプルで、主張の強いバンドサウンドを用意し、限界を超えて潜在能力を引き出すことを彼女に要求した。その後の彼女の作品群を見るに、このアルバムのレコーディングは再び耐え得る作業ではなかったのだろうという思いを禁じ得ない。

しかしその結果生まれたのは、聞き手の心を掻きむしる名盤だった。ロック史上に名盤は数多存在するが、どれにも劣らない刺激がこの作品にはある。破壊的なダミ声、天を衝く高音、繊細なファルセットを自在に操る歌唱についていける人にとっては、生涯聞き飽きない一枚になるだろう。発売から7年経ったが、「全身全霊」という言葉がこれ以上にふさわしい作品を私は未だ知らない。これほどの名盤に店頭で出会える日本のロック・ファンはとても幸せであると、心から思う。

This without a doubt Youjeen's best album. Her amazing vocal talent as a female rock artist really shines in this album and every single track is awsome. I think having J, the former Luna Sea member, as her producer had a big part in making this album so wonderful.

Youjeen is one artist to definitely check out and if you're going to do that, I highly highly recommend this album. IT'S SURE TO PLEASE ANYONE! =D

My favorite songs are: "Someday", "Happy Happy Doll", and "Hey Jerks." Songs I recommend in the second album are: "Fake" and "Daydreamin'".

本当にかっこいいアーティストです！
