   深作欣二監督による日本映画史上に残る実録ヤクザ映画シリーズの完結編。そもそも前作『頂上作戦』をもって完結する予定だったが、あまりの人気ゆえに急きょもう1本ということで製作されたものであり、いわば後日譚的要素が強い。脚本も前4作の笠原和夫から高田宏治にバトンタッチされている。
   警察の頂上作戦で、一応終結したかにみえた広島ヤクザ戦争だが、昭和40年代に入り、服役していた組長や幹部たちが次々と出所してくるのを機に、再び広島に流血の抗争が繰り広げられていく。そんな中、昭和45年にようやく出所してきた広能（菅原文太）は引退を決意する…。
   もはやシリーズの主人公ともいえる広能の手の及ばないところまで進んでしまった“仁義にツバ吐くヤクザの実態”。かくしてヤクザ社会の戦後は終わり、新たな時代へと突入していくのだ。（的田也寸志）

血生臭く壮絶な広島ヤクザの抗争を描いてきたシリーズが、ついに完結となる。服役していた組長や幹部連の出所をきっかけに、再び巻き起こる拳銃乱射や組長射殺などの流血暴力事件。1969年から5ヵ月間に渡り行われた第三次抗争を、深作欣二監督が描く。

警察の目を欺くための政治結社「天政会」。その会長の座を武田（小林旭）から松村（北大路欣也）が引き継ぐ跡目襲名がストーリーの核をなしているのだが、前作「頂上作戦」で一応の決着を見たあとの後日談を、ダイジェストな作りでこしらえたという感じは否めない。

でも、松村が“まだ若い、頼りない”と言われながら、冷静な読みと駆け引きで覇権を手にするさまは、「ゴッドファーザーPARTII」のアル・パチーノをプチ彷彿とさせる。そして、手負いの身で襲名披露に臨み、武田や広能（菅原文太）との世代交代を明らかにする松村＝北大路欣也の修羅の芝居には、凄まじいものがある。

日活時代とはまったく芝居が異なる宍戸錠。山城新伍のカールした髪。台詞がないのに妙に存在感がある八名信夫（彼は岡山出身だから台詞がないのは惜しい）。実写版ゴルゴ１３は高倉健や千葉真一より彼だと思わせる伊吹吾郎。どう見ても「少年」には見えない桜木健一など、ディテールには楽しみどころ、突っ込みどころが満載だ。

「保はのお、今朝まで生きるか死ぬかの境目におったんじゃ。わしらにゃもう真似できんわい」「こんなもええ若いもんが釣れたのお」「皮肉かい」「いや」「とにかくわしらの時代は終わりじゃけん。落ち着いたらいっぱい飲まんかい」「そっちとは飲まん」「何でじゃ」「死んだもんに済まんけえのお」

やっぱり「仁義なき~」は台詞で紡がれた映画ですね。

言わずと知れたシリーズ完結編。僕には若干の違和感が・・・。もちろん、面白いんですよ、すごく。ただ、何と言っていいのか、空気感というか、何と言うか・・、なんか全体的にピリピリしてると言うか、遊びがないと言うか、評論家でもなく、言葉のボキャブラリーも少ない僕にはうまく表現できないんですが、前４作と比べ明らかに違和感がある、と個人的には思うのですが。監督もキャストも（一部変わったが）変わっていない、かわったのは脚本だけなのにこうも違うものかと。
映画は監督もので、次に役者の力だと思っていたが、脚本がいかに大事かを初めて感じた。前４作を担当した笠原氏は「僕としては４作目で完結している」として降板し、全ての資料を次の脚本家に託したという。ファンとしてはどうせ、５作目ができるのは決まってるんだから、最後まで笠原脚本で観たかったなと思うのはわがままなんだろうな・・・

ラストが哀愁感ただよう作品でした。やはり、やくざ映画は仁義なき戦いが最高傑作です。
