   戦後の混乱も収まってきた昭和20年代後半。広島競輪場の縄張りを巡って争いを始めた村岡組と大友連合会。そのころ、博打のいざこざで刑務所入りした工員の山中正治（北大路欣也）は、所内で山守組の広能（菅原文太）と知り合う。やがて仮出所した山中は、大友勝利（千葉真一）率いる愚連隊に袋だたきにされ、それを機に村岡組組長の姪・靖子（梶芽衣子）と関係を持ったことから村岡組に属し、鉄砲玉として暗躍していくが…。
   名匠・深作欣二監督による実録ヤクザ映画シリーズの第2弾。ここでは、組織に利用され裏切られていくひとりのチンピラに焦点を当てながら、広島ヤクザ戦争のある一面をエネルギッシュに描いていく。また、広能らと違い、太平洋戦争にギリギリ赴くことのなかった世代の屈折した想いも描出されている。山中役の北大路と、大友に扮する千葉は、ともに後の語り種になるほどの名演。（的田也寸志）

言わずとしれたヤクザ映画の金字塔、シリーズ第２作。内容などはもはや僕などがかかなくても十分承知！といったところでしょう。なので僕が言いたいのはただひとつ、それは成田三樹夫のすばらしさ唯一つ！
村岡組の若頭・松永弘を演じその魅力を存分に魅せつけた三樹夫氏。山中を諭し、諫める松永、組のために裏に表に奔走する松永、千葉真一演じる大友「おぅ弘、どしたんならぁ？」に対し「勝利・・・（途中省略）・・黙ってゴザまけや」カッコよすぎるぅ〜！！デ・ニーロ以来、こんなにほれ込んだ役者はいない。男が惚れる役者・成田三樹夫ぜひ彼に注目して観ていただきたい。

　個人的には「仁義なき戦い」シリーズの最高作。基本的に群像劇の趣のある同シリーズにあっては、北大路欣也扮する山中正治にスポットを当てて、ひとりの若者がやくざ社会でのし上がって、滅びるまでを劇的に描いている。その点においては後年の渡哲也主演の「仁義の墓場」と双璧をなすアナーキーな傑作かつ異色作といえるだろう。

　見所はもちろん孤高のヒットマン山中正治を演じる北大路欣也。いつも思うんですが北大路さんって若いときから演技がやたら上手ですよね。この山中役はそれに加えてハマリ役。最高の存在感を示しています。北大路の愛人役の梶芽衣子も美しい。しかし多くのかたがご指摘されているように、千葉真一の「大友勝利」と成田三樹夫の「松永弘」の名演がなくては、この映画は成立しない。千葉の陽と成田の陰、これが絶妙のブレンドなんです。とくに千葉の凶暴キャラはわれわれの想像を絶する凄まじさ（こんなひと、ホンマにおるんかいのー）。しかも千葉も成田も他の実録路線作品ではついに本作を超える演技はできなかった。それゆえに本作が傑作として今なお輝き続けるのだろう。

　「仁義の墓場」を北極星にたとえるとすれば、本作は南十字星か。深作欣二、笠原和夫、成田三樹夫、金子信雄、室田日出男、そして川谷拓三も鬼籍に入り、文太兄いや松方さんも年老いた今、この二つの星を越えるやくざ映画が製作されることがあるのだろうか？

コミカルな部分が少なく、山中を演じた北大路欣也が非常に渋く、行き場を失った男の哀愁が匂ってきます。人によって観方はまちまちだと思いますが、私のシリーズBEST 1 です。
