   日本最大の暴力団・佐橋組三代目組長が急死し、その跡目をめぐって若頭補佐の栗野（岸部一徳）と若手実力派の中平（佐藤浩市）、両派の確執が始まるなか、栗野組の門谷（豊川悦司）は幼なじみだったコリアン実業家の栃野（布袋寅泰）と再会する…。

   阪本順治監督による『仁義なき戦い』シリーズのリメイク、というよりも、実録ヤクザ映画全盛だった1970年代に少年時代を過ごした男たちが、現代のヤクザ抗争に翻弄されながらも、己の意地を貫いていく姿に焦点を当てた、彼ならではの友情と暴力の物語。舞台も広島ではなく大阪になっているのが阪本映画らしい。現代の日本映画界を代表する若手実力派俳優が総出演。津島利章の名曲『仁義なき戦いのテーマ』を、布袋が現代風にアレンジした今回のメインテーマもすばらしい。（的田也寸志）

はっきり言って、失敗作です。脚本を担当した高田宏治氏はいいのですが、監督が間違いだったと思う。どこが仁義なきなのかわからない、すばらしいキャストを使っているのにもったいない使い方をしてる。なぜ哀川翔が韓国人なのか、また銃撃シーンが、ぜんぜんないと言っても過言ではない、山口組対一和会の戦争をモデルにしてるなら、すこしは抗争シーンもいれてほしかった。(過激なヤクザ映画が苦手な人にはいいかも)

かつての東映シリーズとは全くの無関係。タイトルだけパクっただけで、原作も脚本もおよそ別の存在。いまや邦画界は衰退の極みにあり“映画監督”なら誰でもいい、と阪本順治がこのC級極道映画を撮ることになったにすぎない。この人はむしろ社会ドラマ派で、のちの『KT』の方がずっと良く、本作の縁か布袋に音楽を任せている。本作は昔のシリーズのような連続・殺気・輝きはなく、まずミスキャストと演出力の無さが非道い。布袋と天と地ほどの差がある豊川の演技力によって何とか一回は見られるかも。

同じ極道映画でも、立原あゆみ原作の『仁義』(シリーズ)に格段のリアリティーを感じる。従って、いくら昔のヒットシリーズの“名”だけ冠しても、本作品、監督、音楽とも最低の評価しか与えられない。もはや日本は実写邦画を作る力は残っていない(…正確に言うと、映画会社でなくテレビ局が映画を作っている)、つくづく思い知らされる。
