いわずと知れた国民的ロックバンド、サザンオールスターズの中心人物である桑田佳祐。熱心なファンであればサザンのポップなメロディや明るく陽気なイメージの裏側には桑田の音楽に対する真摯な思いや繊細な感受性があることを知っている。このソロアルバムにはサザン名義では絶対に表現できない彼個人のリアルで生々しい感情が詰まっている。サザンが商業的でソロアルバムは内省的だと言っているわけではない。どちらの桑田も本物であり、その振幅の大きさがこのように非常にパーソナルなアルバムを生んだのだと思う。
一方では若い女の子にキャーキャーいわれ、もう一方ではオヤジもうならせる。
凄いことだ。

フォーキーでシンプルなのに、圧倒的にクオリティの高い作品群。こんな音が作れる人いますか？いません。僕は浴びるように音を聞く輩ですが、ここまで洋楽に勝るとも劣らぬ音を作れるのは日本人では彼だけです。もう聴いた人もお伺いしますが、１０年以上前のアルバムなのに、全く古さを感じないですよね！？サザンの顔としての桑田からは想像できない男のRock!!かっこいいです。制作当時に身内の不幸があったことも作品の影に関係ないとは言い切れませんが、どちらかというと、やりたいことをやった、に近いでしょう。無き母に送る「Ｊｏｕｒｎｅｙ」、涙無しではとても・・。他にも内省的な曲や社会風刺の曲が多いですが、時事的な問題を扱っているようで、１０年経った現代の世界でも歌の内容がぴったりはまります。そういった意味で、いつの世も変わらない普遍的なことを歌っているんだと気付かされます。そして曲はもちろんのこと、歌詞がものすごいです。ある有名小説家も（ほんとに有名な人ですよ）尊敬に値すると語るほどです。言葉の魔術師としての桑田さんの才能は、ここである種の悟りの境地に到達したといっても過言ではないですね。この「孤独の太陽」、桑田佳祐の最高傑作にして不朽の名作です。このアルバムに出会わずに人生を終える日本人はかわいそうです。多分米が嫌いとかよりも痛いです。さらに、山崎まさよし氏の「一番好きなアルバム」でもあります。一枚いかがでしょうか？絶対期待は裏切りっこないっすよ。

桑田の思いが詰められた作品。
ソロ２枚目だが、社会風刺やら、桑田自身の生い立ち？とか様々なメッセージソングである。

ゆえに、ひょっとしたら聞き入れがたい人もいるかもしれない。
しかし、一度はまると離れられない。
