インパルス時代のマッコイと言えば、どうしても「リーチング・フォース」が、代表作に挙げられてしまうのだが、個人的に愛聴しているのは、こちら。マッコイのピアニストとしての資質が、むしろ「リーチング」に表れているのは認めた上で。スタンダード中心の選曲。バリバリ弾きまくる、と言うよりは、さらりとして、演奏時間も短め。傾向としては、本人のリーダー作よりも、コルトレーンの「バラード」に近い。ちなみにオリジナルのレコ番は、「バラード」が３２、本作が３９と、近い。好みから言えば8だが、出来が良いのは1かな。ピアノ・トリオの名品の一つ。
