ハードＳＦマンガの金字塔のひとつといわれた原作、エイリアン９。
これがアニメになるときいた時、原作を知る者の多くは期待しませんでした。
普通に懸命に生きている少女達と、とりまく現実が醸し出す不思議な空間。そして彼女達が否応無しに巻き込まれる壮絶なドラマ。それをアニメで表現なんて（ま、ムリだろ）。
しかし、生まれたアニメは困難と思われた原作の空気を再現していました。こんな贈り物があるとは思ってもいなかった。原作のことを考えずにみても、アニメとしてのクォリティが非常に高いシリーズです。

さて。アニメのエイリアン９は、基本的に原作マンガに忠実に作られています。
ｖｏｌ．１は、はじまりのはじまり。物語の発端が描かれます。
どこにでもいそうな子供が「エイリアン対策」なんて変なものに係わらざるを得ない世界。そんな世界で泣いたり悩んだり怒ったり笑ったりする少女達を、どこか懐かしくも奇妙な学校風景の中で描いています。
ｖｏｌ．１はまだまだ微笑ましい段階。
おっそろしいエイリアンも出てきますがほのぼのしながら観られます。

グロテスクな怪物が跋扈する現実とは少しずれた世界。
そんな世界で等身大の少女達が、涙を流しながら涎を垂らし下呂を吐く。

異色ＳＦ漫画家、富沢ひとしの代表作「エイリアン9」がいつの間に・・・。
こんなにもハイクオリティにアニメ化されていたとは全然知らんかった・・・。

まぁしかし見事に原作の「空気」が再現出来ているのには驚き。
しかも逃げずに真正面から原作と同じテーマに挑んでいるのも凄い。
不安定感を助長する音楽も効果的。

ただ、中盤の傑作エピソード「イエローナイフ編」で完結しているのが残念。
是非同じスタッフで続編を製作してもらいたいものだが・・・。

でも絶対に一般受けしそうにないこの原作を映像化してくれただけでも偉い！。

カルト的支持を受ける富沢ひとしの代表作を忠実にアニメ化。丁寧な作画に、洋画風の声優の演技、奇妙なサウンドトラックが、独特の効果を挙げている。
