フュ-ジンスキーの自主レーベルからの2作目。世界的に注目度の高いギタリストはミュージックビジネスでも冒険している。その生み出す音楽のみならず、「メジャーで流通して有名になって」という目的とは正反対に己の信念を曲げず創作するということを大事にしている。そこで聞かれるサウンドは一切妥協無し。真摯なまでにクリエイティヴ。「自分はオリジナルじゃなく、混ぜてるだけ」というが十分そのセンスはオリジナルだ。トータルで聞いても分解しても非常に素晴らしい。確実にどこかへつれていってくれる作品であることは保証できる。また、バックを固めるプレイヤーも強力。ジーン・レイクはジャズファンにはデヴィッド・サンボーンなどで有名なドラマー。グルーヴィだが面白い。フィマのベースはい!つも以上に一風変わっている。ウォルター・ベッカ-とやっているなんてそっちのほうが変だ。ダニエル・サドウニックはいまや売れっ子のパーカッショニスト。どこでも名前を見かけるが的確にリズムを色付けしながらも効果音もだす。フューズのギタープレイはもうだれにも真似できないクニャクニャ感。超ファンキーでエネルギッシュなフリゼ-ルといえばちょっとは伝わるか？まあ、とにかく聞くしかない。「アマンダラ」は自由を意味する。ジャンル分け無用。そして感じられる音楽。こういったアートは積極的にサポートしたい。

変態系ギタリストの兆児、デヴィッド・フュージンスキーが結成したHeadless Torsosプロジェクトですが、ボーカル抜き、つまり「Screaming」していないバージョン。2001年発表。例のヨーデルヴォイスの使い手Deanが加入し、ファンク色を強めた1995年のプロジェクトの勢いには流石に押され気味の感は否めませんが、いまの源流を探るうえでは重要な意味をもっています。メンバーはベースにFima Ephron、パーカッションにDaniel Sadownick、ドラムにGene Lake。このうちドラムがのちにJojo Mayerから交代しています。

サウンドとしては、フュージンスキー名義の作品で見られた変態ジャズロックという流れの中にありますが、やはり前述の「Screaming　Headless Torsos」で受けた衝撃には残念ながら遠く及びません。フュージンスキーのアルバムなら無条件で買うという「鉄人」ならともかく、とりあえずという方は、「Screaming」付きの1995年の作品をお勧めします。とは言っても、ここで聴かれる彼のプレイは相変わらず「変態の極み」に徹していますから、ご安心を！
