　それ以前に見られた深刻なタッチの楽曲を一掃し、中山千夏らとチャートや売上高にもこだわらないAfter You レーベルなるものを立ち上げ、Tropical Shower モード満載の年次休暇風アルバム『Every Night』を発表した陽水氏であったが、実際にセールス記録が過去最低のものとなってしまうと、気を引き締めないわけにもいかなかったのだろう、そのせいか今回は詞作は遊んでいても楽曲は深刻なタッチのものが復活している。また、シングルのリリースにあたってもそうとう練りに練ったに違いない。この当時未だ『心もよう』的な新曲を求めてくるファンへの要求受け入れと本人のよりシュールな詩作の創作と楽曲アレンジの希求が見事に融合したＭ１は、後の『いっそセレナーデ』で頂点を極める氏のシュールアダルト路線の始点を築くことになる。また、イントロはBeatlesの『Do You Want To Know A Secret』風に聞こえなくもなくて面白い。第２弾シングルで、阿木燿子の詞作によるＭ３は、一歩間違えると森進一歌謡だが、このぎりぎりのあたりでそれと一線を画しているところがこの人のすばらしさの一つなのだろう。しかし、このアルバムの一番の聞き所は、なんといってもＭ４と８である。彼の求める楽曲の具現化を見事にバナナこと川島裕二氏がつとめているが、特に後者は新生井上陽水氏の到来と言えよう。当時私はここまでやり、ここまで進化したかと涙が出るほど感極まった。Ｍ５もＭ４の効果からか、超アコースティックアレンジなのに妙に金属的に聞こえてしまうから不思議だ。さらに、くせのあるネタを食べた後のあがりの役目を果たしているのが、Ｍ６と９、そして水谷豊へ提供した松本隆 詞作のＭ１０だろう。これらのメロディアスなタッチの楽曲が収録されているおかげで、一度離れた古いファンの一部にこのアルバムを購入させたことに成功したのかもしれない。個人的には最初Ｍ１０はいらないなと思ったが、聞き続けると元々AORが嫌いでない私は、どことなくこのChicagoの『If You leave Me Now』をテンポアップしたようなサウンドにいつしか心地よさを感じるようになっていた。そしてアルバムの締めくくりは、Paulの『Warm And Beautiful』風に幕を閉じる。

「スニーカーダンサー｣「ライオンとペリカン｣らと並び、”売れてないけど充実していた”時期の作品。陽水独自のシュールでアナ―キーな世界に心地の良いバラードがからまり、聴きやすいけど、聴きごたえのある一品。数あるアルバムの中でも一番好き。

冒頭はおなじみのシングル曲だが、（1）（2）（3）とたたみかけてきて（4）ではもう突き抜けてしまうかんじ。スニーカーダンサーをシュールというのならば、本作では更にいっちゃってるようなテンションの高さが心地よい。（5）や（8）といったところは、耳に残るというよりまとわりついてくる不思議な曲。でも悪くない。（9）（10）みたいなふつうにいい曲が、ふつうすぎてお茶漬けみたいに感じられるほど。
