急に陽水を聴きたくなって、いくつかＣＤをまとめて買った。
このアルバムはマリファナ事件の後の復帰作だけに力が入っている。
特に好きなのはギターリフのかっこいい「青い闇の警告」、ボブディランの「コーヒーもう一杯」にインスパイアされたような「ミス コンテスト」、アルバムタイトルの「white」、アップテンポの「ダンスの流行」、ブラスアレンジのしぶい「Bye Bye Little Love」など。基本的にこのアルバムには駄作という曲はないと思う。アルバムとしても良くまとまっている。
当時、陽水がオールナイトニッポンの特番で、ニューアルバム「white」の宣伝のためにＤＪを担当していたのを思い出した。

自分のことを終始「井上」と呼び、すねていた（？）が、スティリーダンの「ドゥイットアゲイン」やイーグルスの「呪われた夜」なんかを好きな曲としてかけていた。こころなしかサウンドやアレンジに影響が感じられる。
とにかくよくできたアルバムだ。古さはまったく感じない。デジタル・リマスター盤で音がいいのも魅力。

「青い闇の警告」から「Bye Bye Little Love」に至るまでの１０曲がまるで短編集のようで、陽水の中で一番好きなアルバムです。特に、押し寄せる孤独と不確かな希望が対峙したような「Bye Bye Little Love」。これは個人的に好きな曲。しかし、全曲がこんな暗い雰囲気に包まれているわけじゃない。どこか滑稽な「暑い夜」、「ダンスの流行」など様々な持ち味を出しています。ツボにはまる一作だと思います。あと、僕は2001年発売のボックス、「リマスター」のばら売りのほうで購入したのですが、既に発売されているCDよりかなり音質も向上しています。音にもこだわる方ならリマスターのCDを購入されることをお勧めします。とにかく音の抜けや広がりがよくなっています。

当時は全く売れなかったという、whiteは個人的には知らないうちによく聞いている(効いている？)アルバムである。それまでの作品に比べると、ドラマティックな面が減退した代わりに、詩が非常に写実的になったことが最大の特徴だろう。かといってさまざまに解釈できる深さも持ち合わせているところがまた凄い！今では当たり前になった陽水の奥深さはこのアルバムから始まったといっても過言ではない。この頃から様々なジャンルのミュージシャンに曲を提供し、陽水を「フォーク」という枠だけでは語れなくなったことも関係しているのだろう。この路線をもっとアダルト・コンテンポラリーミュージックに特化させて突き詰め、82年の『ライオンとペリカン』、商業的には84年の『9.5カラット』で陽水は新たな頂点に達するのである。この作品はその始まりに過ぎない。大傑作!!！
