このCDについて

幅広い音楽性とポップなメロディで幅広く支持を集める4人組、通称ビークルの2ndアルバム。ニューウェーブ的イントロから始まるナンバーやグッとくる切ない旋律など、ビークルらしいカラフルな作品。WATER CLOSETのアスカがコーラスで参加。


内容 (「CDジャーナル・レビュー」より)

その威勢のよいサウンドが一部で大ウケしているという4人組ロック・バンドのサード・アルバム。ルーツとなっているのはおそらく70年代のブリティッシュ・パンクだろう。ポップな曲作り、軽快でスピード感あふれるビート感覚、鼻づまりっぽいヴォーカルにその影響は顕著だ。ストレートなR&Rにキーボードがアクセントをつける曲などは初期XTCに似ていなくもない。ただ、それだけではなく、レゲエやスカ、さらにはユーミンやレニングラード・カウボーイズを思わせる曲もあったりと、引き出しの多さに感心した。 (星野吉男) --- 2001年06月号

私がビークルに出会ったのは、このCDの変なCMだった。
お面を付けた四人組が、車をぶっ飛ばしているそれはそれは訳のわからないCMだった。
そのCMで流れていたのが、本作の1曲目『BE MY WIFE』。
CMの映像が私の視覚に与えたインパクトも大きかったが、それ以上に『BE MY WIFE』のキャッチーなメロディーは聴覚に刺激を与え、心を掴んで離さなかったのだ。

かくして購入したこの作品は、かなりの期間、ヘビーローテーションになった。
とにかく聴きやすい。
どの曲もポップで疾走している。
というか、疾走しすぎである。
10曲入りで20分ちょっとしかない作品だ。
しかしあっという間に終わってしまうからこそ、「あ、もう一回聴こう」と思ってしまうのかもしれない。

そこまで計算された上での短さなのか？？（んなわきゃない）

昨今シーンに溢れかえっている日本語パンクに飽きた方、とにかくポップな曲が好きだという方、
この作品は必聴！！！！！
ちょっとチープなシンセサイザーの音が、あなたの心をくすぐるに違いない！（たぶんね）

謎めいたシンセ音で始まる、もうノリノリ♪なビークルとは一体何者？！という感じですけど…決して素顔を見せないという男性４人組。一方では大学留年、またもう一方ではサラリーマンなど、そういう人たちが寄り集まって出来たバンドのようです。メディアに出るときは、決まって"お面"をつける。私の知識上では、何故素顔を見せないのかは謎。です。

初めてのビークル、最初にこのCDを聴いた人（私の場合もそうかも…）は、何か電気ショックにヤられた感じになるでしょう。懐かしいような雰囲気を醸し出すが、こんなメロディアスな中にも魔物は潜むので候。まず、最初にも書いたように１曲目「BE MY WIFE」では謎めいたシンセ音で始まる。そこに飛び込むヒダカとビークル＆ブラフTOSHI-LOWで唄う「BE MY WIFE」のフレーズ。訳すと恐ろしい。意味よく分からない、そんな歌詞に潜む魔物はまだまだいるのです。８曲目の「RUSK」でも、続く。そりゃそうだけどさ、こんなメロに乗せて唄わないで！ってカンジです。というか、コレがビークルなのです。他、魔物はまだまだいますので、自分で見つけてね。

と、魔物などと変な話が続きましたが、それがイイんですヨ！私は大好きです、ビークル。どの曲も、詞も、本当大好きになれます。単純だナ~とか、思われるかも知れませんが、みんな聴けば「ナンダコノメロディ？」とか思うはずですよ。壊れた感じだと最初思っても、聴いていくうちに絶対泣けてきます！訳を見ながら、大音量で聴いてください。歌詞見ながら、大声で唄ってださい。人生楽しくなってきますよ。多分。
ハナシが入りました。もう曲のコトで話すと激ヤバになるので、その他のお話でも書きます。ゲスト陣がすごいんです！前にもあるように、 BRAHMANからTOSHI-LOW。HUSKING BEEからテッキンとイソベさんが！Cho. で参加しております。その他もろもろ。そういった意味でも、大注目です。

一曲目のイントロでやられました。
ライブでは下品な言葉が沢山飛び出るへなちょこパワーレスバンド、メロディの地獄博士Hidaka率いる変態お面軍団BEAT CRUSADERS渾身の一枚！
各方面で絶賛されておりますがとにかく聞いてみてください。
聞けばわかるさ！

まじめな話。
辛いことが色々あった時僕はこのCDを聞いて泣いてしまいました。

中でも表題曲｢FORESIGHTS｣本当に良い曲です。
好きな人を想って聞きながら切なくなって何度泣いただろう。

おバカな曲とポップでエモ-ショナルな曲が混在する名盤です。
僕はこのバンドが大好きです。
