「マッチを擦る」「水」に続いてリリースされたさかな４枚目のアルバム。実験的だったこれまでのサウンドからややポコペンの「うた」の部分に比重を置き始めた時期の作品。近年のさかなのイメージを持って聴くとかなりの衝撃を受けることだろう。
　前作「水」は極端なまでに静謐な感触を湛えたアルバムだったが、ここでも引き続き醒めたニューウェーヴ的サウンドを聞かせている。リヴァーヴを利かせたクールなギター・サウンドと囁くようなヴォーカルはさながら日本のドゥルッティ・コラムのような趣き。所々導入されるダブ的な音作りも非常に効果的だ。ただ、これ！という決定的な楽曲に欠けるのがやや難点か。まぁ、この時期までの彼らは楽曲の良さ云々以前に、その独創的なサウンドそのものから漂ってくる「ムード」自体を楽しめるかどうか･･･という部分が肝となっているので、一概には否定できないのだが･･･。ポコペンが僅かではあるが、ヴォーカリストとしての部分を押し出し始めた点と、ニューウェーヴ的サウンドがうまく融合しているという意味で、ある意味初期の最重要作品といっても良い作品である。この作品が気に入った方は（アマゾンには掲載されてないようだが）「水」というアルバムも聴いてみることをオススメしたい。

　天才ドラマーの林山人がいてこその「さかな」であると思う。

　この独特のリズム感覚は、明らかにヘタウマの部類だが、常人を超える凄味がある。

　ピュアなファンは、二人になったさかなを真のさかなであると感じるかもしれないが、ドラムレス、もしくは他のドラマーではなし得ない領域に突入しているこの作品は、まさに絶品だ。

　何より、リッケンバッカーを抱えた二人こそ、林の喪失を誰よりも衝撃を持って感じていたことと思う。

　この時点でのさかなは、世界最強のバンドであった。

　それが作品として結実している、かけがえの無い名作である。
