「たま」というだけあって、珠玉の名曲集。
「ぼくのお仕事は、いなくていい人」と歌う表題作は、肩の力が抜けるような
青空のような清々しさに満ちています。
　
　９曲目の「南風」も素晴らしい。同じ題名の劇の挿入歌で、維新派の上演し
たこの劇は、中上健次氏の『奇蹟』や『千年の愉楽』を下敷きにしています。

そのせいか、「たま」の本来の持ち味に、中上氏の作品世界に通じる眩暈感と
荒々しさが加わり、絶妙の味わいになっています。

　１０曲目の「サーカスの日」は、ナイロン１００℃の「薔薇と大砲」という
芝居の中でも歌われました。存在することの孤独を、満天の星空に問いかける
といった内容の、切なくて美しい曲です。

一聴した印象では「コンセプトアルバム？」と感じるかも知れません。
『たま』のアルバムにしては珍しく、
楽曲同士に、なんらかの意図したつながりがありそうな気がしてきます。
「いなくていい人」だし「箱の中の人」だし「ハッピーマン」だし…。
おそらく、こういった見立ては大はずれなんですが、
しかし、アルバム単位で聞き手の浅い深読みを誘える作品というのは、なかなかありません。
(楽曲単位ではいくらでもあるんですけどね…)
つまるところ、アルバムとして傑作、というワケです。

なお、3曲目の犬のうた「ぎが」(犬飼ってる人必聴！泣ける！！)は、
「しょぼたま」にアレンジ違いで再録、
表題曲の1曲目「いなくていいひと」と5曲目「326」は、
これも全くのアレンジ違いで「しょぼたま２」に再録されています。
また、ライブでやる曲も多かった作品のため、
「たまの最期！！」「しょぼたま」と、DVDを揃えると、
超ナンセンスソングの「健さん」以外は、
他の音源で聴くことが出来てしまいます。

そんなわけで、『たま』アルバムを集める順番としては、
今作は後回しでも大丈夫、多分、ダイジョブなのですが、
地球レコードがいつまで『たま』のアルバムを再プレスしてくれるのか不明なので、
まぁやはり、メジャーのCDよりも先に買う方が良い、のかも知れません。
