5.0 out of 5 stars 日本のプログレの名盤！怖いほど美しい芸術作品, 2006/10/13
本当に美しい物をじっと見つめているとなぜだか怖くなってこないだろうか。「新月」とは私にとってまさにそういう「あまりに美しすぎて怖い」作品だ。79年の1st。日本人が作るプログレとしてはほぼ理想的と言っていい作品ではないだろうか。海外のバンド、特にGENESISなどの影響は確かにあるが、シンフォニックなプログレが昭和歌謡、四畳半フォーク、日本独特の美的感覚で染め上げられることで全くの別物になり、唯一無二の世界を作り上げている。１つ１つの音が研ぎ澄まされ、氷の粒のように冷たく澄んでいる。抑えられた音、それゆえのドラマチックさ。どこそこの部分が良いといかいう次元の良さではない、個々の音が重なり合うことで別世界がそこに浮かび上がってくるようなすごさ。
「鬼」は問答無用の名曲。初めて聞いた時の不思議な感覚と衝撃が忘れられない。もの寂しい旋律、ぼんやりうつろに響く歌声。冷えた夜、フッと現れる鬼、鬼を見つめる視線は怯えながらもどこか哀れむような、愛しいものをめでるような視線。ずっと前から自分の背後に立っていたのに気付かなかった、気付かぬふりをしていた恐ろしいものをふと一瞬だけ目の当たりにして凍りつく…でも、その恐怖はなぜかとても優しく、懐かしさすら覚える、凍え死んでしまいそうな体温だがそれは母の胸に抱かれ眠るような安堵…そんな感覚。あまりにも日本的な世界。「発熱の街角」は明るいマーチのような曲調、柔らかく哀愁にじむ歌声。このまま化石にでもなりきれるものならば…この詩が本当に好きだ。「白唇」は静かに昇りつめる切ない感情。メランコリックで美しい響きに涙を禁じ得ない。「科学の夜」は少年や祈祷師などが対話する演劇形式、SFチックな曲。ノリが良く、中盤に静かな展開を挟み、壮大な大団円を迎える。「せめて今宵は」は切なく甘美。特にこの曲はプログレとか無関係に純粋に音楽・歌として名曲だと思う。

曲が、詩が、音がプログレ好きにはたまりません。
メロトロンもあり、ギターもレスポールのウーマントーンの
ディストーションサウンドが更に生ギターと絡む。
ベースも要所にフレットレスを用い、ドラムスの
チューニングも心地よい。
ヴォーカルの線が細いが、トータルサウンドの中では
コレくらいのバランスが耳障りにならずに好感が持てる。

捨て曲無しの傑作アルバム。
中でも「鬼」、「白唇」の完成度は、日本ロック界屈指の質の高さを誇る。
シンフォニックロックという西洋スタイルのロックバンドであるが、
歌詞、メロディ、共に非常に日本的情緒を持ち合わせている。
プログレファン必聴盤だということは、当然のことであり、

この作品は、プログレファン以外のロックファンでさえ必聴盤である。
ロックファンを自認するなら、何も言わずに買うべきであろう。
永遠の名盤。
