その時代だからこそ、創られた音楽があった。
メンバーチェンジ後初めての音源となった『パンドラの匣』は、PIERROT史上で最も重要なアルバムである。『自殺の理由』『KEY WARD』など、収録曲の中には今でもライブで演奏される曲が数多くあり、PIERROTの音楽の最もコアな部分と最もアグレッシヴな部分が共存し、せめぎ合っているのがこの作品の魅力。メンバーの努力と執念の結晶であるこのアルバムが出来たことによって、その後のPIERROTの音楽性はより独創的に、他の誰にも真似の出来ないものになっていった。『パンドラの匣』は刺激的な音を求めたリスナーに支持され、このアルバム発売後のツアーからバンドは怒涛の快進撃を始める。そう、ピエロの歴史はまさにここから始まった。ラスト２曲の『SEPIA』『「天と地」と「０と１」と』は名曲。ライブでの再演を切に願う。

インディーズ版が今でも手に入る事には驚きですがあなどってはいけません。約8年前の作品になるのでしょうか。2000年以降のピエロの作品は購入していないので分かりませんが、きっと今でも核となる部分はこの作品となんら変わっていないと思います。それ位出来上がっているピエロの世界観があり、楽曲のクオリティーの高さはこの当時からピカいちです。

全曲素晴らしいのですが、1つだけ思い入れの強い曲が「ドラキュラ」です。この当時くらいになるのでしょうか。。。「ブレイクアウト」という深夜放送の主にインディーズバンドを取り扱っている音楽番組がありました。その番組のランキングにピエロのこの曲が流れていたのです。初めて聞いたピエロの曲でもあり、一瞬で惚れた曲です。のちにこのCDを手にし、良い意味で裏切られたのを思い出します。Ａ~Ｂメロからサビへの持って行き方はピエロらしい転調だと思います。
「救世主(メシア)」という歌詞は当時から使われていたんですね。

最近ファンになった方にも是非、手に入れられる内に聞いて欲しいと思います。
