フェデリコ・フェリーニの独特の語り口で描かれたノスタルジーです。

イタリアのある町の古き良き時代を舞台に、たくさんの個性的な人々が入れ替わり立ち代り出てきては、物語が進行していくのです。

とにかくたくさんの人が出てきて、子供たちの馬鹿馬鹿しい話から、恋の話、嘘つきの男、知能遅れでみんなに性の対象にされている女性、精神病院から出てきたおじさん、石畳を走る自動車レース・・・・印象的なシーンがいっぱいです。
どこまでが実際の話で、どこまでが誰かの想像なのか、うまく溶け合いながらの進行です。

どのエピソードもほんとうに面白くて、笑いながらも懐かしく、美しく、そして最後には大変感動してしまいます。

有名な巨大客船がやってくるシーンも素晴らしいですし、霧の朝に巨大な生き物が立っているシーン、孔雀が羽根を広げるシーン、真っ白な羽毛が町に降り注ぐ春や、広場に炎があがる祭りなど、素晴らしい場面ばかりです。

その中でもわたしがもっとも気にいっているのは、美しい草原の上であげる結婚式のシーンで、町の人が集まり、アコーデオンが流れ、わたしはこのシーンがもっとも涙があふれます。

「ニュー・シネマ・パラダイス」はこの映画を意識しているような気もしますが、同じノスタルジーでもまったく違うものですね。

フェリーニ監督の語り口に慣れていない方は抵抗を感じるかもしれませんが、しばらくすれば、きっとその面白さがわかっていただけると思います。
