現代人のあやふやさに、強さとしなやかさをもたらしてくれる唱が、とりどりに紡がれている。
中でも「永久欠番」は、ひとはそこにあるだけで価値であるという、存在そのものを強めてくれる。
そして、「炎と水」。愛の歌は人の数だけあれど、かつてこれほどに厳粛で崇高な関係の愛が歌い込められたことがあっただろうか。この2曲は特に珠玉の逸品。
現代人が魂の底に押し込めてしまっていた言葉が、歌として蘇えり、光になったといっても過言ではない。

中島みゆきが言いたい事、感情がリアルに伝わってくる傑作のアルバムです。このアルバムは一般にはあまりお目に掛からないですが、隠れ名作だと思います。永久欠番は壮大すぎて、悲しすぎて、すご過ぎます。必聴です。今のポップスには無いパワー、リアルがとにかく感じられると思います。１００年後、このアルバムを聴いてみた人はどう思うのか、きっと僕はいないでしょうが．．

第２回夜会上演の後に発売され、夜会とは切っても切れないアルバムで、
まったくもってミュージカル仕立てな曲も数曲含まれています。

私が特に大好きな曲は次の４曲です。
　＊おだやかな時代
　　　一部久米宏のニュースステーションで使われていましたが、
　　　フルバージョンがとってもかっこいいビデオ中で発表され、
　　　いくらか手直しが加えられて収められたものです。
　　　私はビデオの方が好きですが、いずれもとても前向きで力を与えてくれます。
　＊Maybe
　　　第２回の夜会で初めて歌われ、その時から名曲の誉れ高かったものです。
　　　彼女の応援歌の中でも一番前向きなメッセージがあり、
　　　力強さの中に切なさもあれば、まるでシャンソンのようなパッセージもあり、
　　　ミュージカル・ナンバーのように楽しめます。
　　　後にリメイクされたものより、こちらの方がストレートなアピールが感じられます。
　＊永久欠番
　　　こんな雄大な内容の歌詞が書けて、本当に彼女は偉大です。
　　　このアルバム発売の時、新聞の一面に大きくこの歌詞が掲載され、
　　　なんてパワーがある歌詞かと驚いたものです。
　　　静かに始まりながらも、曲が進むに連れて盛り上がっていくアレンジも感動です。
　＊炎と水
　　　まるでギリシャ模様のように美しい伴奏に乗り、大きなスケールで歌われる曲です。
　　　これこそミュージカルの曲かと思うほどで、
　　　どんどんと盛り上がっていく様子は、本当に聴き応えがあります。
　　　今までにコンサート等で歌われたことがないので、一度生で聴いてみたいです。

その他の曲も素晴らしく、大音響の中での囁き歌いが印象的な「Ｃ.Ｑ.」、
シングル「with」のカップリング曲として既に発表されていて、
シニカルでありながらも情感豊かな「笑ってよエンジェル」、
昔ながらのみゆき節を堪能できる「サッポロSnowy」と、
アイデア・質共にとても高い、本当に退屈な曲がないアルバムです。
みゆきさん初心者の方もきっと感激できると思います。
