とにもかくにも爽快なロックンロール・アルバムだ。昨年10月にリリースしたZIGGY時代の楽曲をセルフ・カヴァーしたアルバム『NO DOUBT』は、自身の魅力を再確認する絶好の機会だったはずで、彼らならではの揺るぎない個性は本作にも見事に踏襲されている。ある意味での開き直りとも捉えられるが、得意なものを何の制約もなく叩きつけたときの充実度は、言葉で説明する以前に明白だろう。単なるスタジオ・ワークではなく、数多くのライヴを通して培ってきたことから生まれた躍動感。各メンバーの音が強い自己主張をしながら、スピード感のある楽曲へとまとめ上げる手法が秀逸で、その趣は時に激しくもあり時に優しくもある。SNAKE HIP SHAKESはどうあるべきか。作り手であるバンド側とそれを待ち受けるリスナーとの間に存在する心地よい予定調和を確実に押さえつつ、その期待を大きく上回る仕上がりに結実させた。ロック・バンドがロック・バンドであり続ける美しさが随所にあふれる傑作だ。 (土屋京輔) --- 2001年05月号

ZIGGYを改めSNAKE HIP SHAKESになっていた時代のセカンドアルバム。
とにかくテンポ良く次から次に楽曲が流れ込んできます。捨て曲無しのアルバムです。その後の活動でライブの定番となった楽曲も多数含まれています。

しっとりと聴かせるミドルテンポの楽曲も入っていますが、やはりこのアルバムの一番の聴き所はテンポの良さだと思います。思いっきりロックが聴きたい人、最適なアルバムです。

ドラムの音が格段に良くなった。「これがJoeのドラム」と言える音に仕上がっている。これに関しては、瀬山エンジニアの力も大きい。録音状況もさることながら、メンバーのレコーディング姿勢もいい。「基本」を念頭にしつつ、さりげなく凝ったアプローチをしている。

とにかく曲が良い。曲によってはピアノ等、他のミュージシャンの音も入っているが基本的にメンバー4人だけの演奏の曲が多い。それがスネイクの姿勢だったし…　ちなみにラ・ママ100人規模のライブハウスのギグで始まったスネイクは、このアルバムツアーより渋谷AXでギグが出来るまで這い上がってきた。ファン層も新旧ごちゃ混ぜなのが面白い。

「VIRAGO」の1曲目はジギーの「WHISKY R&R~」以上の緊迫感を持っている。「DEAR MY FRIEND」は今や松尾宗仁作の名バラードになった。私的には2・4・6・10曲目も名曲だと思う。
