村中では、ルシエンがダニーを谷に突き落としてしまった話で持ちきりだった。アンネットはルシエンへの怒りをますます募らせ、謝ろうとするルシエンに見向きもしない。無視されたルシエンは腹を立て、森で木彫りを始めた。そんなルシエンに、１人で森に住むペギン爺さんが声をかける。ルシエンの腕前に関心したおじいさんは、実は木彫りの名人だった。・・・
取り返しのつかない事態になってしまい、意固地になってルシエンを決してルシエンを許そうとしないアンネット。重い苦しみを背負いつつも、アンネットの態度に腹を立ててしまうルシエン。観ているこっちが苦しくなってしまう悪循環ですが、どちらも身に覚えのある感情だけに、何だか身につまされる思いがしました。本当はわかっているのに、なかなか素直に謝れない気持ち。苦しんでいる中で、ふとしたことがすごく嬉しく感じられること。他の『世界名作劇場』シリーズの中でも地味なストーリー展開のように思えますが、１年を通してアンネットとルシエンの心の揺れをじっくり丁寧に描いているので、先の展開が早く知りたくてたまりません。
