もともとは色々な歌手に提供した曲をアレンジしなおして（御色直し)歌った曲。
その曲本来の意味がわかるアルバム。
研ナオコや郷ひろみなどに提供した曲を歌ってるのでみゆきさんを知らない人でも楽しめるアルバム。

「おかえりなさい」に続く、セルフカバー集シリーズの第２弾。このアルバムでも、しっかりと歌い上げる演奏が貫かれ、歌手中島みゆきの実力が十二分に発揮されている。特に、「すずめ」のしっとりとしたまとまりが、すばらしい。
「かもめはかもめ」のアレンジは力が入りすぎて、アルバム全体になじんでいないのが、ちょっと残念。

「おかえりなさい」に続き、人に作った曲をカバーしたアルバム。
みゆきさんらしい鋭いサウンドに生まれ変わっているものも多く、かっこいい。

「ひとりぼっちで踊らせて」と「かもめはかもめ」研ナオコ、
「すずめ」ピンクレディのけいちゃん、
「最愛」と「カム・フラージュ」柏原芳恵、
「さよならの鐘」グラシャス・スサーナ、「海と宝石」松阪慶子、
「煙草」忘れてしまいました<(_ _)>、「美貌の都」郷ひろみ。

「ひとりぼっちで踊らせて」はシンセサイザがきらめくような音を出し、
ヴォーカルの音処理もドライに仕上がり、とてもスマートなでき。
最後に出てくるストリングスもとても効果的。
「すずめ」はとても寂しい歌だけど、みゆきさんの歌は力が抜けていて、
とても自然な仕上がりで、お気に入りにの一つ。
クリスタルキングがバックコーラスをつとめ、
とても悲しい内容の曲でありながらも華やかなできあがりの「さよならの鐘」は
とても印象深い曲。
「海と宝石」はシングルＢ面としても出ているが、
アルバムバージョンは頼りない女を演出していて、とてもいい仕上がり。
「カム・フラージュ」は、みゆきさんのなかでも
シャープな音作りがとても印象的な作りの硬派な曲。
テンポ感もあってかっこいい。他の曲もどれもいい感じに仕上がっている。
ただ「かもめはかもめ」はあまりに名曲過ぎ、考えすぎた感じがある。

聞きやすい、とってもいいアルバムです。
