   内気な少女の桂木万里は、亡き父が語っていた「天国にいちばん近い島」を探すべくニューカレドニア・ツアーに参加し、そこでさまざまなことを体験していく。森村桂の自伝的要素の強い同名小説を、大林宣彦監督、原田知世主演の『時をかける少女』コンビで映画化したのが本作だ。
   オール・ニューカレドニア・ロケによる映像の美しさや、若き才人朝川朋之の、往年のハリウッド映画を思わせる音楽がすばらしい。また、ヒロインが現地で出会う人々がすべからく善意の持ち主であり、彼女の未来を祝福するかのようにふるまうのが面白い。これぞまさに、原田知世の未来を祝福しようとするスタッフの慈愛にほかならないだろう。余談だが、黒縁メガネの知世ちゃんは、とにもかくにもかわいい。（的田也寸志）

亡くなったお父さんの思い出を胸に、自分の『天国に一番近い島』を探しに行く。当時ファンだった原田知世、美しいニューカレドニア。娘を持った今では、涙なしには見られません。他の方は、批判的ですが、もっと素直な気持ちで見てほしいなぁ・・・。

公開された当時は小学生でした。

映画館で「Wの悲劇」と同時上映で、「Wの悲劇」がかなりいい作品であったために、この映画は海がきれい、という印象しかなかったのですが、いい年になった今見ると、桂木万理という少女が、思い切って飛び出したニューカレドニアという舞台で、日系人の少年やその家族、ツアコンのおじさん、過去を引きずるが、それでも先を見ている大人たちと出会うことで成長していく過程を細かく描いている作品だとわかり、驚きました。若い頃に見て「景色がきれい」という感想の方には、是非DVDで再度見ていただきたいです。

この映画は私が小さい頃のものですが、
その名前とニューカレドニアという島のインパクトは強く、
私が南の島に憧れるようになったきっかけのひとつに間違いありません。

と言いつつ、今まで観る機会がなかったのですが、
来月だーりんとニューカレドニアに旅行に行くことになったので
ふたりで一緒に観ました。

原田知世さんがもうめちゃくちゃ可愛い！！
今のオトナのヨユウやしっとりさとはまた違った魅力がいっぱいです。

そして、景色がやはり美しい・・・☆☆
それだけでも観る価値があると思います。

はっきり言って内容は・・・(＾ ＾；
でも、観終わった後、とってもふんわり優しい気持ちになれる作品です。

ぜひご覧になってください〜。
