ファンタスティック・プラネットで有名なラルー監督の作品ですが、「ファンタスティック~」や「かたつむり」等の独特な雰囲気を求めて見ると拍子抜けしちゃうかもしれません。（あれはやはりトポールのイラストと切り絵という手法がかもし出すものなのでしょう。）

内容もＳＦにありがちと言えばありがちなんだけど、書籍なんかで酷評されてるほど悪くはないと思います。色使いとかキレイだし。
もしかすると話の内容的には、こちらの作品の方がルネー・ラルーの世界観を表してるのかもな、とも思えます。

ただ、セルアニメーションとしての完成度という点では、日本の高精度なカトゥーン・アニメーションを目にしている私達にとっては？？？という感じですが。まぁ、それも味ってことで。

　このテの映画はわざわざ選んでまでは観ないので、本当に偶然の出会いといえるでしょう。
　大学生の頃にテレビの深夜放送で何気なく観たのがきっかけで、頭から離れない映画のひとつとなりました。

　ストーリー的には一昔前の勇者映画のようで、手に汗握るなどということはありませんが、独特の世界観が魅力のひとつです。

　それに、中央都市から離れて暮らす民の奇抜さとその動きの滑稽さが、つい映画に魅入ってしまう要素となっています。
　邦画アニメとひと味違う雰囲気が楽しめる映画といえるでしょう。

異世界の描写は緊張感が全くなく、ゆったりした雰囲気で、とても引き込まれます。

｢ファンタスティック・プラネット｣のほうもそうなんですが、ハッピーエンドのはずなのに｢未来が閉じられている｣ような、閉塞感がある重苦しさを感じてしまいました。

ストーリーは娯楽作品と思って観たら拍子抜けしますが、アート作品なのでしょうがないのかも。

作画的には昔のアメリカのカトゥーン(シャザーンとか・・・)のレベルで、｢ファンタスティック・プラネット｣の方が斬新だった気がします。
