近年，「癒し」をテーマにしたＣＤが多く製作・販売されている。誰もが疲れきった時代状況と世相のようなものを反映しているのだろう。
この１枚もそうしたカテゴリーにいれらることが多い。

しかし，私は，単なる「癒し」や「逃避」ではない真の安らぎの音楽をこのＣＤの中から見出すことができる。

このＣＤを聞く人は，ゲーンズボロやターナーのような英国の画家たちの風景画を思い浮かべるかもしれない。
かつて恋人と一緒に歩いた公園や野山を思い出すかもしれない。
グリーンスリーブスのメロディやトーマス・タリスの旋律に目のあたりがちょっと熱くなってしまう人もいるかもしれない。
それは，ある種のほろ苦さを伴うものだ。

しかし，単なる甘えのための音楽ではなく，人生の節目を過ぎて成熟を迎えた人々にとっての真の安らぎを感じさせる音楽がここにはある。それは，隠し味として甘さとは対照的なものが満遍なく溶け込まされているものだが，そうした隠し味があってこそ人にとって本当に大事なものの意味を知ることができるのだろう。

マリナー指揮によるアカデミー・オブ・セント・マーティン・イン・ザ・フィールズの演奏は，これらの曲の数ある名演奏の中でもとびぬけて秀逸なものではないかと思う。

『グリーンスリーヴス』は一度は耳にされた方も多いのではないでしょうか？そのオーケストラヴァージョンが収録されているのですが、ハープやフルートの音色がとても涼やかで幻想的で、うっとりと聞き惚れてしまいます。ぜひともオーケストラで聴きたい、と思っていたので、とても嬉しかったです。他の曲も美しくて好きですが、やっぱり私のナンバーワンは『グリーンスリーヴス』です。

映画音楽のようにドラマチックで若い世代が聴いても飽きず、郷里に帰るような安らぎと安定、興奮と衝動が見事に折り合わさり、何年経っても新鮮なエネルギーを与えてくれる。

クラシックをより身近に感じさせ、そして4曲しか入っていない美味しいとこ取りは捨て曲がない。

多少荒く、早めの曲調のグリーンスリーブスも闊達で一歩前へ出る明るい雰囲気が、原曲に忠実な演奏。朴訥さが光る。
