実はこの曲、カラヤンとベルリン・フィルのゴールデン・コンビで聞いたときに全然印象に残らず、『なんてつまらない曲なんだろう！ブラームスの第1番や第4番はいいのにな〜。』なんて思ってました。
でも、このケルテス指揮、ウィーン・フィル盤をきいたら、『れれれ〜〜〜？！！！なにこれ？めちゃくちゃ面白い。』ブラームスの作品にしては外交的で前向きなんですね、この曲。とくに第1楽章での冒頭、うねるような低弦のリズムが期待感をそそります。
この指揮者が早逝したのはつくづく惜しかったな！！！

この曲はジュリーニ指揮ロサンゼルスフィルのLPでずっと楽しんできました。CDを買うことになって、このCDの組み合わせによる第3番の名演が頭に浮かびました。
買ってみて大成功でした。全楽章にわたって木管楽器とホルンが活躍し、特に第4楽章で2本のクラリネットがアルペジオあるいはスケールで交差するところが素晴らしい。それもウィーンフィルの管ですから。
もちろんうねるような厚みのある弦もいいですね。これもウィーンフィルならではのもの。
ブラームスの田園交響曲というコピーはぴんときません。
