第４番第１楽章が出色の出来。何より印象的なのは、弦楽器のフレーズが自然で、みずみずしさが素晴らしい。音楽の呼吸がケルテスのイメージ通りにピタリとはまっている。ウィーンフィルの音色もあまり癖を感じさせない。録音もデッカのアナログ絶頂期のものでホールトーンの伸びが美しい。

第２楽章は前半がケルテスのやりたい事が十分に発揮できずに、表現に迷いを多少感じさせる所もあるが、後半のティンパニの強連打の後は、がらりと呼吸が乗ってきて、大変奥ゆかしくまた、みずみずしい表現だ。

第３楽章はリズムの刻み方が軽いというわけではないが、多少彼のドヴォルザークの演奏をイメージしてしまう所もある。ウィーンフィルの低弦の太さが所々に出てきているので、もう少し、ぐいぐい押してオケを鳴らしきってもよいかと思った。

第４楽章は第２楽章前半同様のややこなれきれていない感じもする。ここはウィーンフィルの音色が前面に出ていて、ワルター等のこの曲の数多くの名盤と比べて、特徴はやや少ないと感じた。
