この５番は特に凄い。出だしの動機から厳格な雰囲気です。２・３楽章と力強く、伸び伸びとしており、終楽章のゆっくりと、しかし内面は全力で駆け抜けるような、重厚なだけではない、イッセルシュッテットの往年の素晴らしい表現力に私は惹かれます。６番も、スタンダードな演奏ではあるのでが、これも、全体を見通してのバランスで、メロディーラインを綺麗に歌わせ、中々の出来だと思います。ウィーンフィルもこのような重厚なベートヴェンの音が出せるとは思ってもいなかったです。さすが巨匠の貫禄といったところですかね。巨匠にしか出せないＶＰＯの数あるなかの、一つの音の出し方だと思います。

ベートーヴェンの｢運命｣と言えば、クライバーの指揮したＣＤがすっかりお馴染みとなってしまった。私もクライバーの演奏は好きだが、あれは異端的な名演で、スタンダード・スタイルとしてはこのＳ＝イッセルシュテットの方を推す。
適度な重厚さ、抑え目な甘美さを伴った男らしさ、オールド・スタイルの面目躍如である。古楽器派の名演による様々な物も色々とあるだろうが、ベートーヴェンの交響曲演奏はＳ＝イッセルシュテットをこそ聴いてスタンダード・スタイルについてのイメージを確立してから様々な演奏を聴き比べして見る事が王道だと、私は確信している。
このアルバムでは｢田園｣とセットで、ひょっとしたらこちらの方が名演かも知れないが、まあそれはそれ、古きよき日のウィーン・フィルの音色をじっくりと御堪能あれ。
