61年に録音されたケルテス指揮ウィーンフィルによるによるドヴォルザークの「新世界」です。「新世界」の魅力としては、民族音楽を思わせる雄大かつ土俗的なメロディーと、「家路」としても知られた第２楽章の叙情性だと思いますが、このアルバムでは、当時若干31歳のケルテスがウィーンフィルからその両面を引き出すことに成功しています。とりわけ弦楽器の美しさと管楽器の迫力は非常に聴き応えがあります。
61年の録音ですが、当時の英デッカ盤は録音が鮮明なことで定評があり、現在の水準からしても十分合格点だと思います。

弦の厚みもそうだが、金管楽器の美しさ、迫力。もちろんそれらを引き出して最高の情感を表現した指揮。すばらしいの一言に尽きる。

ときに早く、ときに遅くの緩急自在のテンポで曲全体が流れる。
第４楽章、一瞬の空白と直後の沈んだテンポのホルン…。この一瞬だけで涙があふれそうな感動がある。

交響曲第9番「新世界より」に関してですが、色々な新世界の中でも
全体的に非常にバランスが取れているのではないかと思います。
テンポ、メリハリ、弦楽と金管の調和などの面で優れている感じました。

以前に、新世界を収録したCDを複数枚購入した際の1枚でしたが、
聴いてみて一番よいと感じ、ネットで調べたところ名盤であることを知りました。

個人的に現在で一番の好みの新世界であり、名盤とされるところも
こういったバランスのよさから来ているのではないかと考えます。

新世界好きの方はもちろん、初めて聴かれる方にも安価であり
絶対にオススメできる1枚だと思います。
