突然の入籍&おめでた宣言でファンにショックを与えた林檎姫の新作。今までのバンド・サウンドとは異なった{昭和歌謡}的手法によるアプローチが新鮮。


内容 (「CDジャーナル・レビュー」より)

林檎の新曲は、昔の映画で出てくるキャバレーのシーンに合いそうな、レトロな感じ。表題曲には、東京スカパラダイスオーケストラが参加。スカのリズムにホーン・セクションやピアノが賑やかに、そして華麗に弾け、ストレートな林檎の歌と絡む。いつもと違う曲調に戸惑いはあるものの、慣れるとその世界に心酔できる。カップリングは、スウィンギー仕立ての「シドと白昼夢」。そして、ストリングス、ハープ、パンデイロなどの音をあしらったエスニック風味の「愛妻家の朝食」。映画を観終わったあとのような余韻が残る一枚だ。 (清水隆) --- 2001年04月号

椎名林檎もいいけど東京スカパラダイスオーケストラの演奏はずるいほどいい。きっとスカパラのホーンセクションがなければこの出来にはならなかったはずだ。このお二方がこんないあうとも思わなかったが実際あってしまっているんだから認めるしかない。昔のオーケストラで歌う大物歌手みたいで豪華です。ジャケット写真は人形みたいだけどグロテスクな感じが出ててらしいかなという感じです。

何はさておきスカパラの演奏が素晴らしい！この曲はここまでの演奏力がないと成立しないんじゃないかなと思いました。
「愛妻家の朝食」がとても切ない。何十回も聴きました。こちらの演奏はちょっとアラのある感じが雰囲気出してて良いですね。

　シングルだけで買って損はなし。
３曲どれも聴きごたえ十分。お腹いっぱい。
林檎独自の危ない「歌詞」に「巻き舌」は健在。
スカパラもよくあっていると思う。
　「愛妻家の朝食」は笑える。本人のインタビューに
よればやっぱり「●もいっきりテレビ」が元ネタらしい。
