全４話で構成される、追憶編のラストです。
この作品のクオリティから言うと、星は５つでは足りない位です。

まず特筆すべきなのは殺陣の迫力。
流血シーンの描写も丁寧で綺麗なのはやはりOVAならでは。
(おそらくTVじゃ放送できないと思われます)
次に印象に残るのはやはり音楽でしょう。

物語の要所要所で流れる数々の楽曲は、見終わった後も耳に残ります。
ハマった人はサントラも購入されるとなお良いと思います。

ちなみにTV放映時、OPに巴や縁が出てきていたのです。
しかしTVシリーズは追憶編を放送する前に最終回。
OVAとして出た今となっては、放送されなかったからこそ、これほどの良作が出来たんだろうという意見もちらほら。


とにかく、｢見ないと損するアニメ｣だと断言できます。

巴の本当の正体を聞いた剣心。
動揺し、「恨みのこもった刀傷」から再び血が。
この演出に衝撃が走りました。
普通ではあり得ないんですけどね。
剣心の左頬につく十字の傷ですが、原作とこちらとでは
違いがあります。私としては、原作よりもこちらのほうが好きです。
清められた巴の亡骸のそばで
「それじゃ、行ってくるよ。」
という剣心、もう、なんつーか泣かないほうがおかしいですよ。
そして、巴の遺体と肌身離さず持っていたコマを家に置き、火を放ち去っていく剣心。
ここからのエンディングは、もう秀悦としかいいようがありません。
音楽、映像、構成、何もかもが素晴らしいです。
３巻まで買ったのなら、４巻も買いましょう。

　この作品を見たときの衝撃は凄まじいものだった・・
　私は、原作の漫画はあまり好きではないのだが（原作はジャンプ闇黒期を支えた素晴らしい作品である）が、私にはあまり合わなかった。
　しかし、この作品は私にヒットした、 とにかくこの作品に流れる雰囲気が異常に凄いのである。　　原作にある娯楽性を全て取り払い至上の芸術作品に仕上がっている。　海外では評価・知名度は高いらしいが、日本では今一つ知名度が低い気がする。まぁ確かにOVAと言う比較的市場の狭い媒体であるから、仕方のないことかも知れないが、（かの言う私も衛星放送でたまたま鑑賞したのだが）非常に残念である。　知るぞ人は知るでは勿体無い作品であるから、原作をあまり好きな人でもぜひ見て頂きたい。
