   アル・ディメオラは、70年代半ばにチック・コリアのリターン・トゥ・フォーエヴァーに抜擢され、一躍注目を集めたギタリスト。とにかくその華麗なテクニックと驚異の速弾きは、ほかの追随を許さない。これは彼の代表作として真っ先に名前があがる、一番の人気盤だ。録音は76~77年。人気の秘密はフラメンコギターの第一人者、パコ・デ・ルシアとの共演が聴けるからである。
   本作では主にエレクトリックギターを弾いているディメオラだが、パコと共演した『地中海の舞踏』は、アコースティックギターによる両者の競演が最高にエキサイティング。80年代に入ると、この2人にジョン・マクラフリンを加えた生ギタープロジェクト、スーパーギタートリオが誕生する。本作はその伏線となったアルバムだ。
   ここに聴かれるサウンドはジャズというより、むしろロックに近く、スパニッシュムードに包まれているのが特徴。とにかくこの当時のディメオラは若さにものをいわせ、エネルギッシュに弾きまくっていた。そのスピード感が実にスリリングであり、たまらない魅力だ。（市川正二）

スーパー・ギタリストといわれる人の作品というのは最初のアルバムからもう既にその人の全ての個性がフルパワーで発揮されているものだ。パット・メセニーの『Bright Size Life』などがそのいい例でワンフレーズ目で既に彼の世界そのものになっている。

このアルバムの『Mediterranean Sundance』を聴いて欲しい。既にアル・ディメ・オラそのものだ。アコースティックをこう弾き出したのは彼が最初だろう。

ギター好きなら聴くべきですね。

元祖早弾きというイメージが先行しているが、このアルバムでのディ・メオラはスパニッシュからジャジーなフレーズまでこれでもかというほど自分を主張している。初めて聞いたときはまさにぶっ飛んで打ちのめされました。ロックとジャズ・クラシックの融合、クロスオーバー＝後のフュージョンと言われる分野を自分では意識しないままに自然に開拓していたという意味でも凄まじいテンションが感じられるアルバムです。
今聞いてもやはり凄い！！

77年に発売されたソロ第２作で、エレクトリックディオメラの最高傑作といわれることも多いアルバムです。77年の「年間ベストギターＬＰ」に輝くとともに、ディオメラも「ベストジャズギタリスト」に選ばれていますが、サウンドはロック寄りのフュージョンです。また、ディオメラのフレーズも、メタリカルなもの、メランコリックなもの、スパニッシュなもの、ジャジーなもの等、幅広く、また、得意の早弾きはもちろん、3ではパコデルシアとのアコギバトルと、ディオメラのギターの魅力を余す所無く楽しめます。
さらにワキを固めるメンツも、ヤンハマー、バリーマイルス、スティーブガッド、レニーホワイト等、強力で聴き応えのあるアルバムになっています。

ディオメラも在籍した２期ＲＴＦサウンドの!好きな方やギターファンにお奨めのアルバムです。
