７５年、ＣＢＳからリリースされた記念すべきファースト・
アルバム。母体となったアライヴァルから４人のヴォーカリ
ストにグリース・バンドからニール・ハバード、アラン・ス
ペナー、そして、あのメル・コリンズらと結成した総勢１０
人編成グループ。

ファンキー路線をベースとしながらも、４人の男女混合コー

ラスが、他のＵＫファンク/メロウ・グループとは異なり、独
自のサウンドを形成している。
その2、4、9が顕著であり、シティー・ミュージックとも捉
えることも可能。ココモの真骨頂である1や7はパブ・ロック
は元より本家、黒人によるファンキーをも肉薄する逸品。
8のボビー・ウーマック、9のキャロライン・フランクリンの

カバーも違和感なく溶け込み、アルバム!の完成度を高めている。

躍動するリズム隊、浮遊するエレピ、メル・コリンズによるサ
クスフォン/フルート、乾いたギターらが全体的に見事に先のコ
ーラスと融合し”パブ・ロック金字塔”の名称を欲しいままにし
ている。
全９曲、オリジナル・アナログでは1~5がＡ面、6~9がＢ

面。制作がクリス・トーマス、録音が数々の名作を生んだ、ロ
ンドン・エアー・スタジオとくれば、悪かろうはずがない。

英国産、ファンキー/メロウ路線の最重要バンドにして最重要作
品の一つ。併せてＡＷＢ，ゴンザレスも必聴だ。
