最近のPerfumeのブレイクを見るにつけ、２１世紀に入ってからの小室哲哉は最新のクラブサウンドとポップミュージックの融合を目指してきたのだと思うが、これを随分若い中田ヤスタカにあっさりとやられてしまっては、さすがの小室氏も歳をとってしまったなあと痛感した。ビキビキの高音圧サウンドに女性ボーコーダーボイスの方法論は同じなんだけどなあ・・・。やっと最新のエレクトロニックサウンドがアイドルポップとして一般に受け入れられる土壌が育った今、改めて本作のその高い実験精神に脱帽するだろう。ただ、あまりにも時代が早すぎたのか、はたまたトランスが選択ミスだったのかは分からないが、一般のファンが離れ、あまりコアなファンも巻き込めなかったため、話題にならなかった不遇作だが、ヒットメイカー小室ではなく、実験精神豊富なもふひとつの小室氏の資質が全面に出た作品で、今聴けば大変面白い作品であったと実感できるだろう。再評価しなければならない作品だ。

聴く人によって、評価がまっぷたつな1枚。
ライトリスナーが聴くのは全くもってオススメできない。
なぜなら、とても「POPSのアルバム」と呼ぶには程遠い作品だからだ。

一応ポップスらしき曲もいくつかあるが、この作品に収録されている曲は、
ほとんどが「TRANCE」や「プログレッシブ」という昂揚感に特化したジャンルである。
世間一般ではまず耳にすることの少ないジャンルなので、慣れていないリスナーの耳には
ひどく不可解な音楽に聴こえるだろう。

しかし、純粋に音楽として見ればコレほど面白いアルバムはそうそう無いと私は思った。
テクノ界では最強の小室哲哉によるトランスミュージック。
これが実に驚くほど心地良いのだ。

KEIKOのエッジの効いた声は、トランスミュージックにベストマッチしていて、
逆に何故今までやらなかったのかが不思議なぐらいだ。
マークのクールなラップも同様で、作品をより一層引き締めている。
トランスミュージックで肝心の音作りも、さすが小室哲哉、非常に巧い。
トランスらしく煌びやかで豪華な音色が多いが、耳障りではなく、むしろ非常に耳に心地良いのだ。
コレは本当に驚くほど巧いので、ぜひその耳で聞いてほしい。

トランス以外のナンバーもとても輝いている。
特に「DON'T LOOK BACK」は、後期globeの中でかなり人気の高い曲。
数々の個性的なglobeの曲の中でも、群を抜いて個性的で独創的な素晴らしい曲なので是非聴いてもらいたい。


このアルバムは、全体的な評価や売上は低いものの、
ひとつの作品としてみれば、とてつもなくハイレベルである。
とても気軽に聴くことはできないが、『本物の音楽』に出会いたい人には
これ以上はない素晴らしい作品である。

昔はTMNにハマっていたが、最近は小室哲哉という作曲家に
対してあまり良い印象を持っていなかった。
なのでglobeの楽曲もあまり聴いていなかった。

それがこのアルバムを聴いて、その印象はガラっと変わった。
思っていたよりやるじゃん！やっぱ小室哲哉は良い！
小室哲哉なんて…と思っている人にこそ聴いてもらいたい一枚。

曲順はいじらずにそのまんま聴くと一層ハマれます。

このアルバムとLIGHT、LIGHT2は私的にはかなりお勧め。
