僕は３０才後半の子持ちである。周りの人間は７０年８０年代の音楽に
しがみついている人間が多い世代である。
くるりの音楽を聴いたとき、日本という国にはっぴいえんど以来久々に
大好きなバンドができたと感じた。なぜだろうか？
このバンドは今の時代としては奇跡的なまでに真摯に音と詩を創造して

いるからだと思う。特に詩である。難解な言葉を用いているわけでもないのに
岸田氏は心の襞に食い込む詩をつむぎだすことが出来る。
今回のアルバムも素晴らしい。「カレーライス」を聞いて見るといい。素人
くさいピアノに乗せて淡々と岸田が歌う。涙が出る。言葉が生きているから
だ。「ばらの花」も良い。
打ち込みの多用といった製作工程はあまり気にしないでよい。音の素人
くささも取るに足らない問題である。そんなものは音楽にとってたいして
重要なファクターではないと再認識した。人の心を打つのは、才能のある人が
真摯に作った曲と詩である。それだけだ。まったく素晴らしい曲ばかりだ。

プライマルスクリームやストーンローゼズのファーストのように、たった一度しか作る事の出来ない輝きのあるアルバム。

同じ人間が、同じ才能で作ったのに，これより上のクオリティーを持つ作品は生み出せてもこの輝きを出す事はもう出来ないであろう、たった１枚だけの特別なアルバム。

そういう作品がごく稀に生まれる事がある。

くるりの今作も、おそらく二度と生み出す事が出来ない何とも言えない輝きを持っていて，リリースされて何年か経った今でも時々聞き返したくなる。僕にとって大切な小さな宝物の一つである。

打ちこみを大幅に導入するなど、前二作とサウンドづくりから異なった仕上がりになっている。
それには賛否両論あるかも知れないが、僕はこれでよかったと思う。
ミュージシャンが、自分が表現したいものを表現したい手法で表現する事は自然だし、それがくるりにとって、打ちこみであり電子音だったわけだ。

それに、よく考えれば1stアルバム「さよならストレンジャー」と2ndアルバム「図鑑」も、かなり印象の異なる作品だったし、くるりというバンドは色々と形態を変えて大きくなっていくバンドなのだという気もしてくる。

クライマックスは、"ばらの花"からのラスト3曲だろう。少しずつ高まる感情が、"リバー"で解き放たれるような、そんな爽快感を味わえるはずだ。
